David Tepper ‘Under Investigation’ Over Public Money

Recommended Posts

Probably more click-bait than anything of substance but we’ll see what happens.

“An investigation is simply an inquiry and should not create any inference that wrongdoing has been committed by any party,” Tolson and Brackett said in a joint statement. “We will work together to ensure that all relevant information is gathered so that a fair and just outcome can be reached.”

I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I'm not a hater like some are either.  I don't think it is fair to judge him just because he hired a bad head coach.  How many owners haven't?  And in the grand scheme of things, it isn't like we stuck with him for too long.  2.5 seasons is a short leash.

Hell, Chiefs went from Herm Edwards to Todd Haley to Romeo Crennel, and yet nobody would dare say Clark Hunt is a bad owner.  The truth of the matter is making the right choice at HC is a crap-shoot.  People just love to forget about the many HCs who looked like great candidates who failed.  Look no further than Brandon Staley in LA.  Everyone is begging for the Chargers to can him, but the majority of people thought he was a great hire.  It really is a crapshoot.  Tepper deserves more time.

This has been going on close to a month and the fact this is first we are hearing this makes me wonder if 2 things

1) someone in York county is still mad and trying to find something (because don’t forget York county is blaming both Tepper and Rock Hill

2) this was part of the civil agreement that as long as nothing comes up then it can proceed to a judge as planned on the 14th

I think there’s something because Tepper went from “not my fault” to settle with both RH and York county for whatever they asked to sweep this whole thing under the rug.  Now the state is coming in and wants piece of pie as well.

Tepper will end up basically paying for this practice facility without having a practice facility lol.

SLED is assisting but this whole this is being spear headed by the York county sheriffs office…that’s a red flag that this is a York county Hail Mary.

So that’s why Tepper wants to settle with York county so fast.  To be fair, York county did nothing wrong in any of that.  They gave money to Tepper per his request for public roads, he took the public funds and bounced.

I assume you are not in the KC area, as plenty of people said Clark Hunt was a crappy owner. And Tepper's issue is that he has little good to counterbalance the overwhelmingly bad/unpopular of his tenure with no real sign of that changing. He's earned it thus far.

    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
    • I have no doubt the Canes will come out like gangbusters, huge bounce back from game one - my only concern is Freddie, if he lets in a couple of softies and Dobes stays hot we could be in trouble.
