I’m not knocking Wilks for the schedule, I’m simply pointing out he has won vs. only 1 team with a winning record, and a winning record of only 1 game at that.

He has also lost to every single decent team we have played this year (by decent I don’t mean Seahawks or Lions, I mean we’ll rounded playoff caliber).

For some reason some thinks this is the future. I’m not asking Wilks to do the impossible, but there has been zero flashes of a potential modern head coach candidate. He is reverting to co trolling the clock and running it which works well vs. poor teams.

However there are no flashes of greatness. Not at all.

So are you looking for us to not use our strengths (running the ball) and instead air it out, just because? What would be an example of a modern HC thing you are looking for?

Multidimensional. To not have just one strength, one plan, and be completely shut down if your one way of winning doesn’t work.

Wilks is a Rivera/Fox clone problem is he’s not even as good as them in that sense.

My suggestion is for a lot of people around here to watch his stint with the Cardinals without finding a million excuses, because he also has excuses this year but how’s he preformed despite them is the argument for keeping him…so that doesn’t really make sense to me to reverse that logic.

I’m cool to disagree as I like Wilks. I see our current OC and QB and feel like this is the only way for us to play. Not sure how multidimensional we can be. It is not his choice at OC nor QB, but he’s making lemonade from those lemons. I don’t hold the Arizona poo show against him, but instead something he learned a lot from. I also understand the wish to finally get an offensive HC. But there are way more Hackets than Shanahans out there. I see Wilks as a Tomlin / Harbough type coach with the potential for sustained success.

I treat everything as if we didn't win the division. Winning the division and tripping into the Playoffs with a losing record means absolutely nothing.

In 2014 the Panthers went into the playoffs with a 7-8-1 record and won a playoff game.

In 2015 we went 15-1 and went to the Super Bowl.

The playoff experience may have given the 2015 team the belief they were that good.  So yeah backing into the Playoffs can mean something.   It's not insignificant.

However there are no flashes of greatness. No adjustments. No scheming. Everything is very safe and when it doesn’t work, we might as well give up because poo won’t change (see Steelers game).

No signs at all of greatness, just better than Rhule.

Have you seen his roster?  Best offensive player?  traded.  Had every single qb that was in camp with this team miss games due to injury and straight up cut one for being terrible.  dealt with a headcase in robbie anderson.  Now dealing with Injuries to both the #1 and #2 corners on this team.  Also mind you, he was hired to coach a staff of coaches he didnt choose, the DC who started the year got fired with Rhule as well as 3 other position coaches, literally working with a skeleton crew of coaches.  The fact hes even sniffing .500 as a coach should be a minor fuging miracle.  FWIW, what you are saying is literally asking the impossible of a coach with no talent and no coaches around him.

Reich as OC

Re-sign Darnold to two year, cap friendly deal; assumes no major regression last two games.  Darnold is your bridge QB while rookie draft pick and Corral are developed; two years to allow Corral and draft pick to develop without throwing them to the wolves too soon.  If one excels after just one year, sweet.

Re-sign Foreman (2 years) and Bozeman (3 years).

Levis / Richardson - 1A / 1B

Round 2.1 needs to be best TE available that can run routes and catch a football

Round 2.2 DE or DT [Starr 2.0, come on down]

Round 3 DE or DT; double dipping (yes, our run defense is that deficient)

Round 4.1 IL that can be future C (eventual Bozeman replacement)

Round 4.2 LB

I guess we might call this the 2nd Reich.

They had a franchise a QB in prime Cam. If we had one I’d be all for making the playoffs because franchise QBs give you a chance. We’re not gonna compete against the stud sides until we have our guy

Here's something to contemplate..............and I'm sober thinking this......

If the Panthers make the playoffs with a losing record........

Then at what level progression within the playoffs would you consider them as winners?

- One and done?

- Losing at the divisional game?

- Losing at the conference championship?

- Losing in the SB?

- (gulp)....winning the SB???

They say the playoffs begin a new season...................so are the Panthers magically 0-0 at the beginning of the playoffs and not carrying the liability of a 8-9 record?

Its a strange scenario to consider a losing team in the playoffs.......and the fate it may have in the perception of what to do with their future.

How many of those 7 wins are from winning teams and how many of those losses are from losing teams?

Ah, and now it all makes sense.

And how many teams have we lost to that we should have beaten over the last 3 seasons? Doesn't matter. Any Given Sunday in the NFL. People don't remember or care who you played. How many people try to make the excuse Tom Brady only has as many rings as he does because he's played in cupcake divisions his entire career? That argument just doesn't hold weight like you think it should

On the whole you are probably right however over 12 games it’s probably important to analyze if you are contemplating the direction of your franchise and it hinges on giving a guy a 5 year deal as your head coach.

being a rah rah type coach a la foxy and riverboat is good for certain games. You can get the guys to run through brick walls for you for a handful of games.  However when it comes time to out scheme a better coach/teams you end up with games like Balt Pitt and Cincy.

Like I have said in the past, being a leader of men is one thing outscheming a nfl coach is completely something else.   What tepper is thinking is anyones guess.   But my gut thinks he wants to avoid a lawsuit one way or another.

    • I would bet dollars to donuts even if Young works out in 2024 we still draft a qb to have on the roster and develop.  Dalton will not be here in 2025, bryce will be in his 3rd year so he shouldnt need a vet presence.  I can almost promise at some point that swing on a guy
