Then why interview him twice? To make it appear he had a legit shot? If that was never the type of coach he wanted he shouldn’t have even been interviewed.

I think it was a respect thing. All things considered Steve did an ok job as interim and he probably wanted to give him an opportunity to "sell" his vision and possibly change his mind.

See how can say that Frank is qualified to be the head coach, without dismissing the fact that if Wilks was a white man he most likely would have gotten the job.

Tepper already proved by his own admission that he hired Rhule because he reminds him of himself. They already showed they weren’t exactly following the diversity training implemented because most of y’all racist as hell and don’t know it. Tepper has certain biases and I’m sure he found Frank more relatable.

It was a good hire, but don’t come at me with Wilks doesn’t have a gripe. He does. And if you don’t think so then I suggest you find a minority to explain it to you.

No one has said Wilks isn't qualified to be a head coach and no one can definitely say that race played absolutely zero part, but attempts to claim at this point that race was a, if not the, defining factor in light of what the team has said for months and Wilks' objectively average outcome (doesn't get more average than 6-6) is unintentionally biased at best and disingenuous at worst.

I hope some of the current players here this. You know they’re gonna be mad/hurting because Wilks wasn’t hired, but Torrey’s perspective should help since he played both in Carolina and under Reich

I read somewhere yesterday that about a dozen or so players that included some captains met with Reich yesterday to express their support. That's a good sign.

They wanted to see his plan for the offense/QB going forward. He earned his interviews they just liked the plan from a former QB, OC, and HC in regards to QB and offense development which makes sense.
Tepper brought in Eric Reid when he was being blackballed. He had no problem with Reid peacefully protesting before games. He brought in Wilks to help Rhule and take over when Rhule failed. He wanted to hire both WIlks and Reich because he knew he needed an offensive guy as that’s the way the league is trending. There are plenty of cases where racism screws over the more qualified candidate, I just don’t think this is one of them.

Projecting what exactly? Because I’m calling out that Tepper by definition is most likely a racist. He was a kid in the civil rights era. His parents were most likely racist and most likely raised him to be the same. It’s just not popular to be a racist anymore so people had to adjust their behavior, but don’t forget that wasn’t too long ago.

Projecting Racism, if you keep screaming everything is racist because of most likelies then we never move forward with it.  There was nothing racist about this, they stated from the very beginning they wanted an offensive minded coach and out of respect for a great man they kept him in the mix.  Nothing more, nothing less

Race is always a factor. Don’t be naive. There’s a reason unconscious bias training exists. If the excuse is purely philosophy then don’t interview Wilks at all. Tell him you thank him for fuging us out of a draft pick and that you’ll be moving on to other candidates.

If they did that… Then you would still be trying to make the same farce but a month ago.

You should actually take the training you are talking about.  Bc you are speaking to it in the opposite manner of how it encourages individuals to act.

Being white would have nothing to do with it. If Wilks was an OC I think he would have had a better chance.
Tepper wanted an offense focused coach.

But they interviewed a defensive guy twice?

because if they didnt there would be outrage from our current social climate due to people like you waving the race card. they had no choice.  its clear they wanted an offenseive head coach with a track record of developing QBs

using the race card when its not justified, just weakens the race card.

To be completely honest Steve Wilks should be writing and taking a page out in the Charlotte Observer thanking Mr. Tepper for saving his football career.

Without him Steve Wilks would be scrubbing toilets at App. St or maybe UNCC. He was a failed college coordinator who got canned just 2 years ago. The Panthers revitalized his career.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
