This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.

The point is, is that Tepper said he would give Wilks consideration if he did an incredible job. Wilks did an incredible job. The Panthers did everything they could to make it seem like was truly considered when he wasn't.  Then they leak that he is a finalist but never was.

I will always be a fan of the Panthers, but for the one game we go up against a Wilks defense (hopefully) I'll root for him to kick our ass.

The matter of how incredible Wilks performance was is guaged by Tepper and the FO.  None of us know how they viewed his performance.  You are using what you view as an incredible job. Do you know if your criteria aligns with Teppers? Since you don't how can you cast stone's? Since none of us know what Tepper had in mind as an incredible job I think it best that we stop trying to imply intent one way or the other.

The team was abysmal. Taking a team from abysmal worst in the league to average is an outstanding jump. Guy won more games in 12 games then the previous asshat Tepper hired did in 2 years.

He did good getting to 6-6 no doubt about that HOWEVER anytime we played a game where we couldn't run the ball we just looked lost entirely. Combine that with Wilks playing conservatively in that Tampa Bay game (punting on 4th and 1 at midfield in an absolutely MUST win game) and then that 10-7 game against the Saints and it hurt his chances tremendously. Wilks earned himself an interview and as a result he got 2 of them with us. He would have very likely been the choice had he shown some aggression with the season on the line.

The analogy was pretty accurate with regard to how credible this particular conspiracy theory is.

Hell, you've never even answered how all of this stuff with Reich's daughter is supposed to be relevant when Ben Johnson was the target and different members of the search committee had different preferences (including Fitterer backing Wilks).

Bottom Line: There's zero credible evidence for any of this, but you're treating it like some established fact that you think the Panthers have to answer for.

It's just silly.

Please forward that information over.

It's not about racism and I don't think that's why everyone is mad.

He did an incredible job with players he didn't pick, offensive and defensive schemes he didn't pick. An incomplete staff he didn't pick. Losing his only weapon. His best QB being on IR and key injuries.

What he pulled off was incredible and quite simply why people should be angry he didn't get the job.

Reich's last game they lost 26 to 3 to the Patriots. The team had 121 total yards.  They lost 17 to 16 to the Commanders. They were 3-5-1 and in the bottom 5 in offense and that's with Matt Ryan.

Now Matt Ryan is washed but he is better then anything we had in the last 3 years.

You guys act like he is the second coming.

Ron Rivera was 76-67-1 and went to a superbowl....would he be a good hire? Would you want him back? Because by every metric he is a better and more accomplished coach then Reich.

By any metric Reich's failures this year was worse then Wilks.

Now you guys can live in the past and say Reich was great when he had a great QB....well no fugging shiit.

All coaches are great with a great QB.  But I get it...he did great 2 seasons ago so statistically he must be a better coach then a guy performing better then him today.

This is just completely ridiculous…

I always though Skip Bayless was missing a screw or two and this statement confirms it.

If Bayless had done a little research he would have known a group of 10-15 Panthers players (captains and other leaders) made it well known to the Panthers brass that they understood the Frank Reich hiring and were excited, despite the public support for Steve Wilks. Reich is well respected.

It was by most standards to the average fan. But it wasn't enough to make them change their mind on going with a coach with an offensive background.  Especially when that candidate had a much better resume for developing good offenses, qbs, and assistant coaches.

The direction was set the day he fired Rhule and made Wilks interm coach. He plainly told everyone in a press conference a few days after doing so. It's not that complicated folks.

I like Wilks the person but not Wilks the coach. He is/was basically Ron 2.0 and we don't need that. The league has transitioned to become an offensive-minded league and not taking advantage of it puts us at a disadvantage.

Wilks ball was to play smash mouth football. Great. When it works, we roll. When it doesn't work, he has no answers and can't coach a comeback.

    • So what about their sign is not compliant or causing the issue according to the rules? Them always having it, or the amount of time they have had it, or their loyalty to the team is not relevant to this situation. To be clear, I know next to nothing about this situation, just trying to clarify.  I have no dog in this fight and am emotionless on this topic. If you are breaking a rule, you do not get special treatment just because you have been here breaking it a long time.
    • The team fell for that late season averageness he displayed last year and got burned. You want to do that again? I don’t.  But I sort of do agree that we are stuck with him as the starter.  I can’t decide whether replacing him gets us into the playoffs so suffering through one last season is the price for freedom in 2026.  Three ways to be free in 2026: He actually plays like a real NFL QB,  The team sends him packing. Be completely out on tne Panthers until changes are made.
    • Short version = these people have had those seats since the beginning and haven't missed a game. They have always had their sign. They had to change the sign - I think in 2015 when Cam ripped that Packers fan's banner down (love him for that, by the way) - to be compliant and haven't had any issues in the last 10 years. The Panthers even used a photo of them and their sign in their album from the Falcons game. In the 3rd quarter last weekend it was decided that the sign needed to come down. Seems weird and unnecessary, especially since it has been there for every game for a decade.   EDIT: they've had it since 2003. Still a long-ass time.... Also "cringe" is a funny word for someone over the age of 18 who lives and overshares on the Huddle. But, ok....
