What I don't understand is if this guy is as great as everyone is saying why has there only been 2 teams that have shown interest?

He's the best available QB and can be had right now but seems like teams still waiting on the actual legit QB's Rodgers and Lamar to make a move.

There will be more than 2 teams interested - it's still very early, I think.

Carr is not a great QB, noone is saying that. What he is is a proven guy with a middle of the pack floor.

Our division is in disarray, Philadelphia is one hit on a running QB for being out of the picture. Dallas will soon have to start paying guys. The 49ers have to sort the QB situation and Rodgers is quitting in green bay.

If there ever was a time to make a push with a great oline/rush attack and a young, possibly really good, defense plus top 10 QB play. It is now.

Floor is the playoff, unless Reich turns out to stink in which case we are doomed anyway. And no, we will not get a great QB this way so it in no way a perfect solution. It just happens to be the best option.

Selling the barn for a top pick or rolling the dice in the range we currently draft, and punt a season or two while they develop, is just not intriguing me with the current draft class. Even with the saved cap.

People

People get enamored with watching guys throw it far or throw it hard, when neither of those things is what matters.

What matters is your ability to accurately throw it to a spot.

If you can't do that, The result is more likely an incompletion.

(but hey, at least it'll look really cool and make you go "wow") 😕

What if you can do both? I've seen QBs do both, but only the ones that can like Mahomes or Rodgers fir example. Sometimes circumstances cause for both: to anticipate and zip the ball, especially when a play goes off script. I agree that in an offense that's a well-oiled machine that is based on precision and timing, a QB "rarely" has to throw it hard, but there are those times when the best zip the ball to the receiver because they see it and know that they can execute it.

Stafford had 27 more TDs and over 4500 yards. Carr has only had 9 games with 300+ yards and 3 tds while Stafford had 20 with the Lions. It aint a contest, Stafford is the better QB by far. Carr is the AFC version of Kirk Cousins. and i hope to God he goes to the Saints and shuts the door on any chance they will be competitor

I remember people saying Stafford had one of the best arms in football during his Lions days.

I never heard this about Carr. Stafford had elite arm talent. Carr has never been talked about on that level.

If Carr is what you think he would be signed by now. Teams putting him on hold for Lamar and Rodgers.

Carr has a top 10 arm in the league. Better arm strength than Burrow or Dak for sure. Stafford is in another league tho

Let me ask you this straight up. What path do you think we have better odds of resulting in another Super Bowl appearance with? Chasing other teams discarded quarterbacks or drafting our own?

Let's take a look at the last 10-15 years of Super Bowl teams.

https://www.insider.com/how-super-bowl-teams-acquired-their-quarterback-2022-2

You've got 3 key free agents who helped their new team win one. Brees who went from SD to NO. Manning who went from Indy to Denver. And Brady who went from NE to Tampa Bay. All three are basically instant hall of famers and one is the undisputed goat albeit a total douchecanoe. Beyond that you've got a couple trades that are very rare like the Stafford to Rams deal. What's the trend with the rest? Drafted! 🤫

It’s becomes tiresome when you spend time on a post, ask questions, and then the reply changes the topic.

We went from defining “retread” to arguing something I’m not arguing.

I’m on the “improve the QB position” train, regardless of trade/sign/draft.

I wanted to point out that “retread” is a blanket statement of negativity towards (in particular) quarterbacks from other teams. And that it’s a poor form to apply the term to both a Sam Darnold and a Carr as if they are the same thing.

Carr is undoubtedly the best free agent QB. If we go that route then I’d be happier with him than anyone else.

I know I have been pounding the drum to trade up for a QB but in reality there’s not a single option that seems like a slam dunk for us at QB this offseason or the foreseeable future unfortunately.

Hey guy. We're still on the same topic. I provided you information that you refuse to address because you know it destroys your narrative. Multiple things can be true. Carr is a retread. He's an upgrade over Darnold. Even Teddy Bridgewater is an upgrade over that. The issue is where folks like yourself are now chasing after and propping up anyone that fits that criteria. If he took an affordable deal that would be one thing. But 35 million a year? Big no thanks.

BTW cheers to the most triggered Carr superfan on the huddle 😂🍻

A lot of folks are anti-Carr from the PTSD of watching the Panthers make bad acquisitions of veteran QBs and fail miserably. Hell, I fully admit that I'd rather draft a QB for this very reason myself.

But if the opposite were true and we'd been swinging and missing on QBs in the draft for years then these same folks would likely be clamoring for Derek Carr.

Pretty much.

It's not necessarily the method that's the mistake. It's who you pick.

It's been reported that our front office is interested but they're not going to impose on Reich and his staff, so until it's all fleshed out we won't know whether the Panthers plan to try for him or not.

The big difference for me with Carr is that this is a guy who has actually played at a high level for the majority of his career. He isn't a guy who looked decent in spot duty for an all-time great offensive coach like Teddy. He isn't a guy who played terribly but showed elite physical tools like Darnold. He isn't a guy who had one decent season but then failed to build on that like Mayfield. Carr is definitely a different type of veteran QB than we've been dealing with in recent years.

Honestly, I'd still prefer draft but I wouldn't mind Carr.
