Ryan Poles trying to drive up the cost of the #1 pick

Fitterer should be dangling Burns in leu of one or two of the future first rounders.  Chicago needs a DE badly, and also has a $100 mill in cap space to sign Burns without blinking.  Otherwise they should have traded Burns to LA and used that ammo (2 firsts reported) to move up for the QB of the future.

Good point I am sure it’s being considered

The team his said consistently (and repeatedly) that they're not trading Brian Burns.

As he should. He has the golden ticket. If he gives it to you, you can save football in *insert flailing NFL city here*.

There is no guarantee the first pick will even be a starter in three years let alone the savior for a team. The only thing guaranteed is that you have given away your future picks on a gamble.

This is so risky and bold-- but I have no doubt that Tepper is now pushing the panic button and they will make a very bold move.

I fully expect us to lose three firsts, a second to move up.

“panic button” + “very bold move” = desperation

In both my professional and personal life, I have never seen an action or decision made in desperation that had a positive outcome; in fact, it often made things worse.  It must be an unwritten law of Karma…

Exactly.

Roll the dice at #9. Roll it again next year and the year after if he busts. Don't trade all three of those picks for one chance.

It’s often argued that you should choose quality over quantity however, it’s also true that “quantity has a quality of its own.”

History buffs may remember that in WW2, we deployed many, many more lighter duty Sherman tanks against the more heavily armored Panzers and Tigers, which were superior but fewer in number.  Simply put, we had more tanks on more battle fields and engagements than the Germans.

Keep the 24 and 25 draft picks.  Put more tanks on the field.

Burns isn't going anywhere. He is currently the face of our franchise, he's a solid young DE that gets better every year, and he was a determining factor for some of the new coaches joining our team.

If you think he's an option to be traded, I really can't help you.

But put yourself in Fitts' shoes. You have an owner desperate for a franchise QB. He's run out of patience waiting. If you sit there at #9 and a QB doesn't fall and you have to go into the season with another mediocre vet retread or a third tier rookie or Matt Corral at QB, you're a walking dead man. You're as good as fired. Make a bold move for a QB and you've at least bought yourself time.

The time is now. Everyone feels it.

And if that bold move fails then you are out the door as well. Cant put all your eggs in that one basket. Best to have a vet and a drafted guy to increase chances you will be successful.  How many qbs make it through the season uninjured. You need two guys who can win games if needed.

I'd rather do something to keep my job now even if it means maybe get fired in two years versus getting fired now for not doing the thing.

They also said CMC wasn't getting traded.  It's true until it isn't.  Remember it's all very fluid...

Absolutely. I'm not a trade Burns guy, but it's entirely possible that both the Bears and Cardinals would want him in a trade scenario. If these teams said there's no way we're accepting a trade without Burns being included, I would think the Panthers would have to relent. Contingent on free agency, the Panthers could be going into the draft with an injured Coral as an option at quarterback.

There was a pretty big change on that front though (a fired coach).

Is there a change like that you can anticipate happening now?
