Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced

After one night's sleep, heres my feelings. In order to simplify I will use numbers instead of picks. Along with pointing out the here and now. Finally contracts.

Panthers got the rights to one pick, the first pick and most valued

1st- 2023

________________________________________________________________

Bears

9th- 2023

61st- 2023

DJ Moore- 2023-2025 team friendly control for 3 more years

14th- 2024 guessing on where the panthers finish

47th - 2025 ""

Looking at the "now" haul or 2023, man thats looking great for the bears *if you view DJ Moore as a solid #1(I do). Like others thats the sticking point for me and his conctract has 0 dead cap AND no more guarantees. What a bargain even if you view him as an "average" #2.

Speaking of team friendly contracts, it seems the QB market has gone insane again with the Carr, Jones, and Geno "one year wonder, Im still Geno" Smith. *If the panthers land top 12 level QB play, huge swing towards panther side. If panthers win now and keep winning onward to playoff runs, another huge swing for panthers.

The last factors are having a man like David Tepper as owner. Reports were in 2020 and until Watson got traded, he was telling folks at any cost watson would be a panther....then came his fully guaranteed 250 million demand..... Tepper stopped singing his tune. Now looking over the panthers TEs, RBs, and WRs................ given the trades of DJ Moore and CMC were needed and its leftd the weapons room empty....

I think this traded favors da bears.

But it's not one sided. Looking at recent history at the cost of trading up towards the top- Commies, Bears, 49ers, Rams, Eagles...they show its a higher cost to land the rights.....but I dont want to think about the results of their QBs......

Keep praying.........that CJ Stroud is the savior...

I hope he is the pick and I think he can be.

That's not a lot to give up for the #1 pick. WRs are easier to get than QBs. We have messed around with the QB situation for years and it hasn't worked. Now we have OUR choice. Not whoever is left over. We control this draft.

I would have expected to give up more to get to #1 from #9.

If the Panthers get their future franchise QB out this draft, one that will be on the team for years, then I think we all can agree that the price to trade up was small indeed.

Yeah, I mean there isn't much we can do about that trade now. It just is what it is.

I know and it sucks because I’m happy we finally actually decided to go for a QB. Still makes me not feel good about our GM. Rhule was gone and we still had the lack of foresight from the Hurney era. It shouldn’t have taken until the new coach is hired to realize we were likely going all in on a QB which often entails trading up. I know so many people didn’t want to trade Burns or honestly, didn’t really understand the value we got like the free cap space and pick 36 but I’d think the top priority would be to surround the rookie QB with weapons. Even if we can’t replace 100% of Burns with all of the FA money, having an offense that functions like top QB offenses makes the D better.

NFL is all about taking chances. You have to have a franchise QB to get anywhere in this league. That’s a fact.

I wouldnt say fact, it makes the path much easier. 49ers got the NFC championship without a QB. Ugh.....the broncos won a SB with dead arm QB.

Success can be reached...........just have one top 5 D and luck....

The Bears don’t have pick 32 d/t trading for Claypool.

So I’m sure they consider DJ equivalent to first round value.

Also kinda depends on how we end next year. Rookie QB with not much around him on offense. Our defense still needs some pieces. In a weak division we could make a run, or we could also end up back in the top 10 next year.

For the record, I don't think we got fleeced, but I don't like the deal because history says it's unlikely to be worth it in the end. The price was to move up was low to reasonable given what one might have expected Chicago to demand, but I am not optmisitic that Stroud or Young or whomever will now be in a great position to succeed long term.

They do seem to be able to step into throwing behind a decent offensive line, but with both DJ and CMC gone now, who is the offensive weapon that will make a young QB's job easier? Oh and over the next 3 drafts including this one, we just gave up several of the most valuable picks we might use to acquire such weapons.

Devil's advocating my own post, most years quality WR's can be had in FA, just not this year, and solid RB's do not require first or second round picks, so all is not lost. I'd love to see them use one of their highest remaining picks this year to get a promising TE prospect if one is available.

This. I feel  like we traded one problem  for another. Now we have to find a new WR to make this work. Spending the next pick on a quality  TE prospect might actually  work out better to help a rookie QB. God knows we need one. The answer is definitely not on the roster right now. I remember the shock of having one of our TE's actually catch a pass. "Oh noooo, not to him...whew...miracle."

I thought it was a very fair trade for both teams. So considering how many QB needy teams we needed to jump I thought we did very well

I think Moore is going to go off in Chicago. He is a much better deep threat than people realize due to our QB situation over the years. Moore and Fields will make for an exciting duo

At the end of the day, nothing matters in this league unless you have your QB. So this was a trade we had to make

Yep, both teams likely improved with this trade.

Win, win situation.

I can have some level of "OK" with either. But they're not gonna be set up to succeed with R. Jay Soward and Ryne Robinson as WR targets. If it isn't one of them, Reich could coach his ass off and 2-15 would still be unattainable.

we can pick up a free agent or two this year to give him between targets.

It's as if people think that this team.....as it is right now....is the team we're going to be marching on to the field next year.

Or, maybe they just don't realize that now "OMG we don't have any targets!!!!"

I understand, you're used to this team being run by idiots.

That's just not the case anymore. That's not what this coaching staff is comprised of.

Just because this is the Panthers doesn't mean every decision they make us doomed. They've turned the corner. We have experienced and successful people running the show now.

Ive heard some talking head say this- "Its much easier to find a good-great WR than good-great QB".
