And this is exactly why you entertain trade talks.

So funny how much heat we got saying let’s use his contract extension $$$s on two solid starters and use the 1sts and 2nd (we’d have 36/39 for a TE and WR or Edge and TE or WR and CB, any combo  this year) and have the 2024 1st and 2025 1st of a team that shed Jalen Ramsey this offseason.

Now people are saying franchise him after this year to make sure he plays well in the 3-4. SMH, with the cap space we could have replaced his value or 80-90% of his value with two FA D starters and put some serious young, 4-5 year contract weapons around our rookie QB this draft and the next two drafts.

I still think we’ll regret not taking that deal. I’m also fairly sure the Rams are thanking their lucky stars that we didn’t take that deal so they could rebuild a bit.

Silly. I know pass rushing is highly valued but dude it’s only 10-15 plays per season. I know hurries, qb hits, etc. count but sacks are the money number. I said at the time we refused the draft picks for him that we would regret it not because he wasn’t worthy of a huge extension, but because when we let the league know what we turned down for him his agent faxed us a blank check and said don’t stop until you run out of space to write. They married him in Vegas that day.

Stopped reading after the bolded.

You obviously don't get it. Argue until you are Blue in the face.

It’s important to remember that NFL players are taxed based on where (what’re state they are physically in) they play on Sunday. So while it can still be a significant amount of money, it’s less than what most think. If that were a significant factor in negotiations, I think it would be brought up more. But it’s also the individual player and what they value most.

Heartbroken, truly. But that number is shorthand for your effectiveness as an edge. I don’t make the rules. Burns is also good in run situations but he’s not Luke or something. Regardless, the meat of the post was after that glib comment so whatever floats your boat.

I gave it a look over.

The reality is when pass rushers get paid, their not paid on overall balance, but their presence on the field.  Burns has a heavy presence on the field that every offensive coordinator has to game plan for him.

I agree, his run support isn't what you want out of an elite defensive end, but that won't stop him from getting paid. That just how the NFL works.
