I think so. I'd keep him and try to develop him as a backup. I just don't think our new staff sees anything in him. I mean, have they said a single word about the guy? It's like he doesn't exist.

Agreed they haven't said anything.  There really isn't anything to say.  They have very little first hand knowledge about him.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH MATT RHULE.

He could come in and really shine or he could just be another guy.  I think he will do much better with Reich and McCown as his coaches. It will be really nice if he actually shows he can play and we have a solid backup to our future QB.

I wouldn't say they don't have any plans for him.  Develop him and who knows maybe we get another pick or two for him.

Hopefully. But I honestly think there's a decent chance he's not even on the roster this year.

This is cringe worthy.  Please, have some self respect.

Pedestrian supporting cast.    Interesting

After watching the film I have the stance that Bryce makes his supporting cast look worse than it is.  When he turns down open throws in structure to play out of structure, it makes it seem like noone was open.  And since he's holding onto the ball so long, it makes it seem like the line can't block because the pass rush gets to him.

There are plays that CJ throws a dime on time for an easy completion and Bryce in a similar setup turns down the throw and starts dancing around before trying to throw a hero ball.

I haven’t seen many Bama games, but this is my concern. He’s awesome at out of structure plays, but does he actually do so many of them because he isn’t taking what’s already there? That’s my impression from the limited games I’ve seen. And that’s one more reason why I’m in the Stroud camp.

I have to respectfully disagree. I'm an LSU fan so I watch the SEC West closely. This past season was the worst supporting cast of receivers that Alabama has had in a while. Their RB, Jahmyr Gibbs was their best offensive threat and should be a late first - early second round pick. Jermaine Burton leading receiver (677) was a transfer from Georgia and JaCorey Brooks second-leading receiver this year, was their 8th leading last year.

To me this is actually one of the selling points of Bryce Young. I got to see what he looked like without Jameson Williams and John Metchie, who combined for 2700+ receiving yards and 20+ TDs the previous year. That is a lot of production to replace, yet Alabama was in every game it played and lost by a combined 4 points to Tennesse and my LSU Tigers.

What you just said is certainly the narrative of the season and Bryce Young's situation.  I ran with that until we jumped up to the #1 pick.  That's when I went back and actually reviewed the film.  The film tells a different story.  Bryce was turning down open throws and I have been posting play after play where it has happened.  I will give some more examples.

On this play there are 3 different guys that are different versions of "open."  I'd say the guy standing at the far sideline is the hardest throw to make.  However, if you look at CJ Stroud's game film he would already be in his throwing motion at the point where I snapped this pic.  One of the receivers would have caught it and it would have looked like an easy pass and catch.  On to the next play.  Bryce didn't throw it to any of these guys.  He threw the ball away and the announcer said "nobody was open so Bryce just gets rid of it."

Stuff like this is largely ignored by the media, but I guarantee you that our staff is picking up on it. CJ is going to be a better NFL QB.

...so do you study film or just skim through it..

here's another play Stroud all day...could've took positive yards with the checkdown to rb coming out of the back field...instead negative yard passing play...

Here is a kid that smokes the defense and Bryce makes the throw from a clean pocket.  Stroud would put this on the money and the kid would walk in for a TD and everyone would say it was an easy pass and catch.  I marked where Bryce put the ball with a green dot.

Here is another one that is an easy pass and catch for Stroud.  The kid settles in the zone and is open.  Bryce turns down this pass to scramble around and throw a more difficult pass for a touchdown.

That's where I get worried that he literally can't see some of these guys and all the exciting scrambling he does is because he's looking for lanes he can see through. Stroud isn't usually as exciting to watch but he's way more efficient

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
