Dan Graziano: People in the league believe Panthers drafting CJ Stroud

It was either Reich or Fitterer who mentioned having a QB that’s  able to set protections at the line. Young does that which is super rare for a college QB.

Again if they’re neck and neck there are things that favor Stroud. Obviously his size but he also throws a better deep ball and in Reich’s system that may count for a lot

One thing I find interesting about the Young vs Stroud debate, is the consensus of Young being the better overall talent.  This is something I wouldn't deny, but folks acting like Young is head and shoulders in that area.  To that I say, I'm not seeing it.  These guys are close in talent.  Even if Young was 6'3" or 6'4'', I still might take Stroud over Young due to him being the more fluid passer.  Yeah, give me the guy who doesn't have to think about his mechanics.

Can the draft hurry up and get here? I'm so sick of these threads

I hear you. But a year ago we were bitchin’ about Sam, Rhule and which mediocre Qb we would have to reach for in 2022 draft.

Today, Sam/Rhule are gone and we hold the number 1 draft position. We are so much better off.

League meetings? The collection of all 32 NFL coaches? Seems they could get a sense of where things are heading this week easily.

And I'm not mad about it. The more I watch Brcye, the more I think he's just a good college QB. Small, lacks elite traits of any kind physically, lacks zip on the ball, played at Bama with Metchie and Williams.

Think Tua may actually have been better but I think both will be back-ups on their 2nd contract. The Dolphins would offload Tua if they could.

i think you are probably right on the source of the info, but i'm not totally seeing what you are on Bryce. i think he'll be really stinking good.

I don't think anyone questions that he's going to be good.

What they're all worried about is whether he can stay healthy.

Breer on the QB question...

From Fid (@RandyFidler): You're the Panthers GM draft day. Who are you selecting and who would you target with the 2nd round pick to complement?

I think Bryce Young. Everything I’ve heard about Young as a kid is A-plus-plus. His OC from Alabama, Bill O’Brien, told teams in the fall he’s never had a player like Young, and O’Brien coached Tom Brady. Scouts will tell you his accuracy, instincts, pocket movement, football IQ, competitiveness and toughness are all A-plus. I’ve also heard he absolutely blew away Carolina coach Frank Reich when they sat down and talked football.

If he was 6'3" and 220 pounds, there’d be no discussion. He’d be the first overall pick. But he’s not, and that is not a cursory issue for teams.

And it could be a problem for Young, too, because CJ Stroud does have closer-to-prototype size (6'3", 214 pounds) for the position, and brings a lot of what Young does to the table. The questions with him are more on his willingness to run, put his body on the line and create off-schedule—things he actually did flash in his final college game, which happened to be a national semifinal against Georgia.

Ultimately, I think there’s a good chance Stroud winds up going first, because he’s close enough to Young traits-wise, and you’re well within the scouting guardrails size-wise for a quarterback with him. But I’ve heard enough people call Young special—really special—to the point where it’d be hard for me to pass on him.

What do you know? He chose my question!

until he proves he can't, i'm going to assume that he will just as much as any other player. because no one has been able to show a correlation between smaller players and injury frequency or magnitude.

I saw something about the Texans beat seeming to think we're taking Young and they're gonna be "stuck with" Stroud... Not sure I buy it or that they know any more than us but I bet the Texans are trying very hard to get an idea of who we're taking. We also might be fooling them with smokescreens from the last few weeks.

I'm on record as being ok with either of them.  But if I was a betting man, I don't think Tepper signed off on moving up and trading DJ just to take the safer pick (CJ).

Rhule was a mistake, sure, but one multiple teams were ready to make.  Tepper flew down there and got his man.  This time it is evident he has learned from that fiasco and I do think he is taking a lot of advice from his new staff.  But when the final decision is made I am becoming more and more certain it will by Young.

Guys with brass balls don't take the safe pick.

    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
    • You do know the biggest military base in the US is located just an hour from Raleigh in Fort Bragg right? Military families are family oriented. A hour drive to games is nothing compared to traveling 3 hours to Charlotte.   Cmon man there is nothing happening in Western Carolina other than Charlotte. I only go west for outdoor activities and some nature/mountain views.
    • Okay, who is coming. And how hard is it going to be to get tickets? I’m currently living in Germany a couple hours north of Munich. Happy to help facilitate a cheaper experience for help getting tickets lol.
