Well.  I guess we will see what Tem Lukabu our outside LB can do to get him up to speed.  
 

I think our reactions are conditioned from our past.  For too long we haven’t developed players.  This is a new age.  I will give the coaching staff and this player the benefit of the doubt.  
 

He does have the traits and does have a 80 inch wing span.  So setting the edge with power could be an easier thing to get him started with while he develops.

NFL coaches drive me nuts with this kind of thing. They all think they can develop guys who have have ‘traits’ but have shown nothing on the field, but it almost never happens.

Yeah, you can take a raw talent like James Bradberry and coach him into a starter, but that requires giving the guy lots of playing time.

For the most part, that doesn’t happen in the NFL. Guys don’t play unless they’re good, but they can’t get good unless they play.

Given his age and college production, I don’t see how this guy suddenly turns into a good pro.

Looking at his highlights he played TE in 21. He hasn't played the position much and he has the physical tools the coaches think they can coach up. We do need an edge that can stop the run and that's a strength of his.

So... pure desperation is what I gather? That always leads to good decisions.

Most of these guys who bounce around positions - particularly from one side of the ball to the other - are typically great athletes who simply aren't good football players. It's just coaches trying to figure out some way to use this gifted athlete and nothing is clicking. There are exceptions but those guys are indeed the exception and not the rule.

Agreed we were better off focusing on offense. Honestly we probably should have oe offense with the 3rd. Might have had better value there.

Because of the run on pass rushers, they'll be more vet FAs to hit the market. Just load up on vets.

With all the talent still left on the board, just bite the bullet and admit the wr gamble fuged you in the pursuit of a de and go in a different direction.  Life to fight another day and all that.   Why go all panicky pete and not only reach but give away assets to go after a mid 20's developmental guy?  I thought we literally just drafted one of those last year

Disagree. Our defense is not that good and not that talented AND are switching schemes completely. Yes a defensive coach was able to make them play above their level last year. Yes, we do have some good or even great players, I’m talking as a unit, we just have not been stalwart.

 

Since we are in stage one of a rebuild, we need to get a few guys, that our FO think are good, that hopefully are actually good and we can build off of. Especially since we don’t have a round one pick next year(correct me if I’m wrong with the trades and all that). We need to get away from putting second and third stringers in starter spots on defense.

When it comes to where or how guys were picked, I generally only carry around enough "give a sh-t" to last through draft weekend. It only comes back if they don't work out.

If Johnson turns out to be a good player, I'll never care again.

      I did not want to start or even think about *if* BY reverts back to pre-non last 9 games.   There is a lane in which Panthers are looking QB after this season, I feel its higher than most will realize. I mean....not kidding... has any team ever traded up to 1st overall twice in the teams history? I don't even want to think within 3 years, just foresee Tepper squeezing Dans and Brandts sacs to the point were they are forced to trade up for a another savior.....   The kicker is I feel this way with BY playing good-great..... I think there with be non-fixable problems for contract negotiations between BY&reps vs Panthers org on the whole. You can not pay 50+ million per over few years with 70% guarantees for 3,303 yards 15 TDs and 9 INTs......Cursed I tell you....

      It's not surprising, but it's still surprising that many of these guys don't manage their money in such a way that provides them and their families a better lifestyle than most for the rest of their lives without even working a nine-to-five. I can't imagine making over a 100 mil for a decade and ultimately ruminating about supporting my family due to financial issues.

      That why i mentioned the KC dynasty. Those three different playoff loses were not Allens fault, in fact 1-2 plays and Bills win. KC just have better players and better coaches and more luck.  Defense-wise, Bills have been trying to crack the Reid-Halhomes magic. Its near impossible with rules and KC home field advantage. Spags has started to force the league in naming him the best DC in NFL history. I agree if you take away Bill bielacheat.... Add in Andy Reid the best QB coach and brilliant play designer/play-caller, I mean that's too much for one QB to over-come on his own.  Just trolling or not, bad is bad scot. Allen is legit as any one QB has ever been.
