The mess that is Washington:

Former running back LeSean McCoy once played under current Washington Commanders offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Eric Bieniemy ......

"The thing that alarmed me the most was the relationship with the players," McCoy said about Bieniemy during a Wednesday appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" program, per Zach Dean of Outkick. "You have to change with the times. With Bieniemy, I think he’s stuck in that old, back in the days where the coaches were cussing players out … that’s not how it’s played nowadays."

McCoy had Bieniemy as a coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2019 NFL season and suggested that the 53-year-old needs to realize that his coaching style could cause more harm than good in a new environment that doesn't include his offense featuring Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.

"I was part of that Kansas City Chiefs championship team, and it was terrible," McCoy recalled about Bieniemy. "One of the first things I noticed is how he talks to the players."

A potential controversy arose for the Commanders when head coach Ron Rivera acknowledged on Tuesday some of his players struggled to adapt to Bieniemy's intensity and personality after the two-time Super Bowl champion coordinator joined Washington this offseason. A somewhat defiant Bieniemy said later in the day that he simply "is who he is" and Rivera backtracked Wednesday by noting that he "put [his] foot in [his] mouth" via the original statements.

It's unknown exactly why Rivera shared such information roughly one month before the Commanders open the regular season with a home game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 10, but it seems he already has a built-in excuse should the club's offense produces multiple duds in Bieniemy's system this fall.

Bieniemy's former players in KC telling Washington players to buck up and take the coaching.

This. What world are we living in nowadays? Safe spaces, don't name call, trigger warnings, etc. The NBA is already soft as can be ... is the NFL going to follow suit?

I saw a comedin's bit saying how back in the 80s/90s the youth would always rag on their elders for being tame and soft. Now, in 2023, for the first time ever, elders are looking at the youth and saying the teens are the soft ones lol.

It kind of depends on how you do it.

Being an old school guy, I'm all for being tough and building winners. But even with that, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it.

Mike Ditka of all people criticized Bill Parcells for his approach. He said Parcels would break guys down until they believed they were completely incapable of playing football unless he was their coach.

How true is that? Don't know, but it doesn't sound like something I'd be in favor of.

    • Svechnikov and I'm voting cause I'm pissed.
    • He had games where he was a top 10 QB that week, vs Saints, Falcons, Eagles, Chiefs, Bucs.  Amazing performances that I think show what he can do consistently.  He must play with confidence to overcome physical limitations where someone like Cam can struggle all game and then win the game at the end by running someone over. Bryce won’t be that and I am fine with it, it’s time for us to move on to the new era. It’s been 5 long years.
    • We both know there's more that goes into batted passes than just the height of the QB. Most people here have readily acknowledged this and there were numerous discussions about it before we drafted Young. But if you are presenting a POV that Bryce's height hasn't tied to issues with his footwork then there's nothing anyone is going to be able to say to sway you and you know this. Even beyond the footwork I recall a redzone play where Bryce couldn't see around his right tackle at all where a receiver was waiting practically alone in the end zone for a touchdown. There are real world circumstances that are going to show up over the course of the upcoming season and it's up to Bryce and Dave Canales to make adjustments and do anything they can to mitigate negative instances and yes that begins with Bryce's footwork again. Thanks for your time. Have a nice weekend.
