Why have we not signed anyone yet?

Whats the rush?  Doesn't look like any teams are hurrying to sign any of these guys.  We've basically got 3 FA EDGE's that stand out to me.  Leonard Floyd, Clowney and Ngakoue.  I would wager that one of these dudes will be a Panther in the next few weeks/months.

Clowney has a reputation for having an "Inconsistent motor."  In 2013, this was written about him in a Gamecock web page, summarizing what some were saying about him:  "He's lazy. His posse is getting in his ear, exacting a negative influence on his decision-making. He's more motivated by the prospect of a big payday than a genuine commitment to honing his craft."

Did Clowney ever work to be the best? Can you say that he is better now than when he was drafted?  I get the same impression of him, and I am a Gamecock fan (born in Columbia when my father was playing tight end for the Gamecocks--so I am a legit fan).  Frankly, "good is the enemy of great," and he has learned that he gets paid by being good.  I was hoping for so much more from him--thought he'd be the GOAT at the position, if he could get his head right and get motivated.  He reminds me of the person who plays football because he is good at it, but does not LOVE it.  Just my outsider's point of view.

Why wait?

From the behind the scenes at the draft story...

And pass-rushers are even more expensive when they become free agents. As they were considering trade proposals, Fitterer spun around to ask Suleiman the latest on a couple of older players. The answer was quick; their agents hadn't come off their previous asking prices.

It’s very true. Had a big sophomore year then mailed it in his junior year when he was NFL bound.

To me, the kiss of death for a defensive player is a "hot and cold" or "questionable" motor.  When I have heard that, they almost always bust.  When I hear that a player has a "non-stop" motor, they often are overachievers.  At DE/Edge, you better go hard on every play.

Players wait because they don't want to do off-season activities

Remember when Brett Favre would hold out the entire training camp before signing.  He laughed and said that he did that to avoid training camp.  (Jets, Vikings).

Let's be honest. To this day all of his clout basically goes back to that one time when he hit that Michigan RB really hard. Without that one highlight reel he'd just be another underperforming high NFL draft pick who's hype fizzled and became an afterthought.

    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
    • Nah we just talking about giving a platform and normalizing predators (who both beat women) opinions and celebrating it if it fits your narrative.  If that's fun I'm fine being a miserable fug by not supporting P.O.S like that. N b4 you call me a libtard or some other dumb ish know I'm an Anarchist/Libertarian and believe both these dudes should get a complete ass whooping (at min) or something worse for what they have done to women in this world.
