Was just listening to Sirius NFL radio while in my car.  Moving the Chains with Jim Miller and Pat Kirwin.  A Panther fan called in and of course wanted DHop and asked if they thought the Panthers had the money to get him.  Jim and Pat said that DHop is not interested in raising another young QB.  But, Jim also said that the Panthers do not need him.  They love the Panther WR room.  They have been rating different position groups on each team  and next week it will be WRs.  Jim told the caller that he would be really surprised when he hears their rating/eval.  Jim loves Mingo.  Jim said the Panthers ahve realy set Bryce up well.

I always cringe when a Panther fan calls into the show. Yet to hear an intelligent take from any of them.

Until we offer him the most money.

Talk is cheap this will be about the most money this is likely his last big contract and he has 10 kids to feed!

If we overpay I think he would come here.

Naw not a chance I know his good friend he’s set on a contender and doesn’t want to play with a rookie qb I’ve heard that from one of his partners who literally hangs with him. But if that wasn’t the case I’d still believe he wants to contend strongly for a chip I like where we are at now but don’t see us on the level of Buffalo or KC or Baltimore. Do you think 10 million more over 3 years is enough to persuade him when he’s made a hefty amount the last four years. I hope he changes his mind and plays here close to home I’d go crazy we’d be a threat offensively to anyone we play.

This is just my opinion but I'm seeing trouble on the horizon with the WR corps. Jim may love Mingo, but college level DBs stuck to him like glue. Not good. That means NFL DBs will be all over him as well. I'm not saying Mongo won't be good, but he may need to be thrown open. I think waving off DHop because we have TMJ, Chark, and 32 year old slot receiver Thielen, would seem kind of silly to me. Just my opinion. Obviously go by what the experts are saying. Not trying to invalidate or dismiss what was said on the radio.

I don't think Hopkins wants to come here. He'd want to go to the Bills imo, but if he showed any interest of coming here I'd be all over it. He'd instantly be our best WR by far. Keep in mind that this years problem area will probably be the passing game. Why not boost it up? Easy choice.

These arguments get old. Same as the "X area is better than Y area!" We don't know what the personal motivations for most od these guys are. It might be family, taxes, area, who fuging knows?

We can guess the football reasons but speculation on people's personal motivations seems very useless.

You need to research the Tyreek Hill trade. He preferred to go to Miami instead of Jets because same salary he would have paid 2.7 million in state tax in NY, none in Florida. I agree it probably is not the deciding factor, but it could matter to some.

I'm not sure anyone has gotten their money's worth from Nuk in a long time. Maybe it's best we just let someone else take him on.

What planet are you living on?

Last year after his suspension he killed it until Kyler got hurt, his per game averages would have come out to 120 catches for 1,350 yards in a 17 game season.

2021 wasn't great, but still, when he's been on the field, he's still an elite level WR.  No, maybe he's not a Top 3 WR in the league anymore, but he's absolutely Top 20 at worst and still probably pushing Top 10 if he's fully healthy.

He still has some of, if not THE, best hands in the NFL, he catches almost anything in his radius

Yea, but Tyreek was very clear that he was looking to be the unquestioned #1 option on a team (which he wouldn't be with Kelce in KC) and that he was looking for the max money he could get.

Hopkins was saying that he'd take a pay cut if he was traded to a contender, I don't think he's looking to squeeze out every penny possible.

If everything, and I literally mean EVERYTHING, goes right with our WRs this year, then yea, we'll have a really good WR room.

If Chark can stay fully healthy for 17 games and finds his form, he can be a borderline #1 option.  Thielen is still an elite check down option and as a #3 in the slot can be one of the more effective safety valves in the league.  Then if TMJ and Bingo play up to their max potential this year, that's a solid top 4 with gadget weapons with Laviska and Byrd as our 5th and 6th WRs.

But any injuries or players not living up to their potential, and it could be a disastrous unit.

We may not have the top end elite WRs, but our 3-6 WRs might be some of the best in the league if things work out this year.  And in an offense that should have a good run game and this next level brain in Bryce, it could work.

Having said all that, I'll still take Hopkins in a heartbeat, less for this year, more for next year.  Give him a year to help Bryce grow, if TMJ and/or Mingo breakout, we could be legit SB contenders in 2024 with Bryce in his second year and a Top 4 of Hopkins, TMJ, Mingo, Thielen.

The key there being "some." It's just as pointless a discussion as "this area is better than that area."

    • My projection. I think at WR its time to go with youth. This means Moore should be the odd man out. Horn can return both punts and kicks and Tremayne is a better WR than Moore. XL gets one more year to prove himself, although I could see a trade in the future which would mean Moore could stay. For OL, I would like us to bring back Brady if we can. The RBs, Trevor can return both punts and kicks too. With the uncertainty of Brooks and Dillon, its hard to choose either one. I think the team would like for Brooks to have a breakout season to clear any uncertainty that he deserves a spot. For now, I have them both even and on the team. DL looks solid as well as OLB. Watch out for the UDFA of Aaron Hall and Isaiah Smith at OLB. They look promising and could knock someone off the team. ILB is still the biggest weakness on the team. We need to upgrade that any means necessary. CB is strong and Im praying to all the Gods that Wheatley beats out Scott at FS.  OFFENSE: WR: Tetairoa McMillan - *Chris Brazzell II* - Brycen Tremayne TE: Tommy Tremble - James Mitchell LT: #Rasheed Walker# - *Monroe Freeling* LG: Damien Lewis C- #Luke Fortner# - *Sam Hecht* RG: Robert Hunt - #Saahdiq Charles# RT: Taylor Moton - #Stone Forsythe# TE: Ja`Tavion Sanders - Mitchell Evans WR: Xavier Legette - Jalen Coker - Jimmy Horn Jr. QB: Bryce Young - #Kenny Pickett# RB: Chuba Hubbard - Trevor Etienne - #AJ Dillon# - Jonathon Brooks DEFENSE: LE: Tershawn Wharton - Bobby Brown III  NT: *Lee Hunter* - Cam Jackson RE: Derrick Brown - LaBryan Ray LOLB: Nic Scourton - Patrick Jones II  LILB: Trevin Wallace - Bam Martin-Scott - *Jackson Kuwatch* RILB: #Devin Lloyd# - Claudin Cherrelus  ROLB: #Jaelen Phillips# - Princely Umanmielen LCB: Jaycee Horn - Akayleb Evans RCB: Mike Jackson - *Will Lee III* - Chau Smith-Wade SS: Tre`von Moehrig - Lathan Ransom FS:  Nick Scott - *Zakee Wheatley* - Demani Richardson  SPECIAL TEAMS: K/KO: Ryan Fitzgerald P/H: Sam Martin KR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. PR: Trevor Etienne - Jimmy Horn Jr. LS: J.J. • His contract is guaranteed.  Legette is just not where he needs to be mentally.  Not fully invested, it seems.
    • Literally like Hill. He's not QB1 material (now or ever), but if we can turn him into a H-back and use him like  Swiss army knife, that's his ticket to make the roster.  H-back/emergency QB.  I wonder how good his hands are?  If they are at least above average by NFL standards then we can line him up in the backfield, in the slot, split out wide and of course, in the Wildcat.
