Yeah I thought ASU would've been a better fit in regards to managing and meeting expectations, especially with the upcoming departures in the PAC. Nebraska's heyday seems well past, and there aren't many compelling reasons for someone to go play in the middle of nowhere at what has become an afterthought and overshadowed by the competition.

That said, there's no reason to think he can't have them competitive with the rest of the Big 10, other than the 3 or 4 usual powers at the top in that conference.

That is the battle Nebraska faces, and your last sentence is about the top of what I see them achieving.  The problem is, I don't think that will be good enough for Cornhusker faithful after two or three seasons of it.

Remember when Bridgewater was destroyed for saying the coaching staff was a clown show... sorry Teddy

That was when I started to turn on The Process.  The deflection and tap dancing only got worse from there.

The answer was that "WE" need to do better in order to move forward.  But that would mean The Process was owning the ultimate accountability, and he wasn't going to do that.

College fans are much more passionate than pro fans.  I am sure there is little patience left in Nebraska.  "5 year plan" will get a moving van parked in his driveway.

His previous tenures took three years to build a winner.

https://catcrave.com/posts/matt-rhule-ex-boyfriend-carolina-panthers

Matt Rhule just cannot seem to keep the Carolina Panthers out of his mouth, even if they've moved on to a prosperous future under new head coach Frank Reich.

And yet, the pity party continues for Matt Rhule.

Months after he was mercifully fired after another embarrassing home loss against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, Rhule just cannot seem to keep the Panthers out of his mouth. Of course, this doesn't have anything to do with holding himself accountable for the team's failings under such incompetent leadership - rather blaming everyone and everything but himself for a downward spiral that left the franchise in tatters.

Carolina Panthers cannot get away from Matt Rhule
The Panthers were a joke under Rhule. There were other factors in play, for sure, but the buck stopped with the primary figurehead after team owner David Tepper ludicrously gave him absolute power and a whopping contract to prise the coach from Baylor.

Once Tepper eventually saw the error of his ways, things immediately began improving. But based on Rhule's comments via Pete Thamel of ESPN recently, it's clear the former coach is far from happy about his perceived treatment in Carolina.

Rhule makes it sound like his time in Carolina was akin to a bad day in Baghdad. But his lack of personable traits and the lack of accountability meant he was always on the back foot with fans.

Excuses came in plentiful supply and on a weekly basis. Whether it was the Jay-Z reference or throwing his coaches and players under the bus, there was nothing this con man wouldn't do to save his own skin.

The players could smell this a mile away. Based on their statements since Rhule was finally removed, there was no talent development and a college-type environment in a professional setting as one man's dictatorship propelled the Panthers into the proverbial football wilderness.

If Rhule thinks his treatment was bad, he should have tried watching such an inept football product from the stands. At times, it was like being tortured for information you didn't have, and only when Steve Wilks assumed command did a level of professionalism return.

Rhule's silver tongue and salesman-like qualities are going down a storm in Nebraska as he looks to restore the program to past glories. But throwing shade at the Panthers and their fanbase, in particular, at every turn makes him look like the jilted ex-lover that cannot stand seeing a previous partner thrive away from the relationship.

It's embarrassing beyond measure. But very in character.

https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/07/07/former-panthers-hc-matt-rhule-carolina-purifying-fire-nebraska/

.... Rhule almost never seemed like a good fit at the pro level. From commandeering final say over the roster to reportedly controlling the team’s social media offerings and parking spots, his . . . um . . . stylings were always best suited at the college level.

Oh, and the actual on-field product wasn’t great either. The Panthers—in their two seasons and change under the first-time NFL head coach—went 11-27 and cycled through a sickening carousel of starting quarterbacks.

It is absolutely a small sample, but of the handful of Nebraska fans I know, either online or in real life, they all seem to think that Rhule was put in a impossible no-win situation, and then was scapegoated after 2 and a half seasons. Subsequently, they have completely bought in to the notion of him returning them to their glory days, and they are expecting a playoff appearance, especially now with the expansion of the field. Winning 7 or 8 games and a trip to the Independence bowl versus a K-State or the like is not going to be good enough. Right now their expectations are out of control.

Nobody brags about killing somebody.

You attitude is definitely an attitude of one whom never never been put in the situation of taking another's life, whether intended or not.

I pray you'll never know.

So in this case, I pray for your continued ignorance.

    • alright im going to post seriously here for a second what you are seeing with bryce young is the confluence of some well understood cognitive phenomenon: mistaking what you want to happen for what is happening and working backwards from there (call this working backwards from a conclusion/cognitive dissonance, im sure im mixing up the terms a little here), and getting scammed and defending the scammer (call this the gregor macgregor affect i don't know there's probably a term somewhere, google is unusable.) People who care a lot about the Panthers want them to have a good player at the most important position in the game, and the Panthers gave up a ton to be in position to take one, and they took one, so that must be the good player. There is obviously an overload of available information any lay person can find that they can use to convince themselves that what they wanted was happening. to the lay person, it was aggressively obvious right away that it wasn't going to work out. it was clear halfway through the first quarter of the atlanta game he did not belong in the nfl. a bird's eye view of the season shows at best the second worst season ever. But people who really wanted something to be true cannot accept this, and instead pick apart details or blame things or wishcast into the future or move goalposts to defend it because they cannot accept that what they wanted and what they believed they had is actually....not there. People do this all the time. I've got a patient right now in late stage frontotemporal dementia and her POA just will not listen to me or hear what I'm saying because he was told I'm an amazing provider with inpatient neuro experience and when I look at him and say "you need to understand expectations" or "she has no quality of life" he just refuses to understand what I'm saying. The second is this weird trait we have where if we get scammed, some people will defend the scammer. if you get bored read up on gregor macgregor and the mosquito coast, but basically he was charging people to join an expedition to settle this absolutely poo stretch of land in south america. all these people either died or had to be rescued, but when they returned to their home towns they refused to believe they'd been scammed, blamed other things, or even blamed themselves. This guy was CLEARLY a scam artist but they could not accept they, smart rational people etc had been scammed. This is some weird vestigial evolutionary trait that helped a group of monkeys work together to take the watering hole and no of course there's no modern day political equivalent why you imply such a thing. Panthers' fans were scammed with Bryce Young. Tepper (david or nicole im not sure which) were scammed with him. Obviously it's more complex than one scottish dude drunkenly walking into a bar in Buenos Aires but it's a similar setup. And yes the stakes are lower than moving to the other side of south america but a scam is a scam is a scam. It is very difficult for people to admit that they, ostensibly smart, rational, logical people would believe and buy in to something so obviously rotten so the blame has to go somewhere else. Every problem with Bryce has an cause external to him, and all problems will be solved by /random thing that has happened the specifics don't really matter. Currently it's a guy who no other team interviewed for the HC position. if you read this and your first instinct is that i'm attacking you, you need to take a deep breath and reevaluate some things. this is an opportunity for personal growth and you should take it. surely some people will counter with "well it's just football it's not that serious and why does it hurt to be excited for something?" This is what's called a "though terminating cliche" and is just a cutesy little phrase meant to stop the conversation and help the person using it avoid defending their terrible ideas. and to the person saying "lol wow you typed all this up u mad," <puts poo posting hat back> don't judge what i do by your own limitations. I'm much higher functioning than you and this was neither time or energy consuming for me. This is a casual thought. I am learning not to hold people to the same standards I hold myself, so I don't blame you for reacting defensively out of a sense of wonder and inferiority.

    • The way they have been acting makes me think they deserve that outcome. They should have celebrated the hell out of the free pick for sure but what they have done since the draft just looks like they learned nothing from their team history or what Carolina went through last year.
