Brian Burns out of practice, Frank Reich not saying if absence is contract-related

Camp confidential made it clear how much respect he gets from other teams, and how he’s the face of the team now.

He’s a core piece of the next chapter of panthers football. As others have said, it doesn’t really make sense for it to be contract related at this point but the team definitely needs to be inching closer to a deal.

i like burns and but sacks- while a ??? stat- hes never had 10 in a full season. Sure pressure is top 5(i think). His run defense is below average too. Hes not a "5 tool" player per say.....and to give him 27per/____ man thats a tough check to write each week when the stat line is zeros.

heres another one, since hes been the panthers basically won 5 games each season. if you want life changing $$$$$ you better be making it happen on the field, which is the issue.....

still want him on the team, cause without, its scary......reddick out played him the last two years and hes getting 15per....

He had 12.5 sacks last year

Fingers crossed that the team can keep Burns, Brown, Chinn, and eventually Horn as those four are key parts of the defense. Getting another pass rusher and some LB help for life after Shaq would be a huge boost next season (unless we find answers on the roster this season, of course).

While I know he wants to get paid; he's going to wait and see what happens in SF with Bosa.  I think Burns is set to really have an explosive year.  Does he deserve Bosa money?  No - but he's going to try to get close.

I'd like to see the Panthers get him signed ASAP so that he can just go out and play.  With a, hopefully, better balanced team, with a better scheme, I hope that Burns totally dominates out there.

Burns hate is delusional, but I don’t mean that as an insult: it’s an exaggeration about the player he is/isn’t.  It happens to all of us from time to time. I think some over analyzing is happening due to his upcoming contract, some animosity is being held due to the Rams trade offer, and people are naturally terrified of his cap number hamstringing the team….

That said, he showed he belonged right when he came in the league, has improved every year, became a top 10 guy last season, and is entering his prime. His contract will have some projection in it, and that’s okay. Dude is 25.

He has the respect of the staff,  other teams, and the locker room. There’s always things to improve on, and for him, it probably is run defense, but I can also find examples of Peppers getting run on in his day too. Sometimes it was his fault, sometimes it was scheme related. It’s a complex game.

He’s a damn good player, and he deserves to get paid. Bryce being on a rookie deal gives us flexibility too.

You pay him the same as Watt.  Here is a link to the most sacks the past 4 years.  Now, he isn't "top 5", however, you need to put a little of the past 4 years in perspective.

  • How often did the Panthers fart around and "drop him in coverage"
  • Numbers 1, 4, 5, 7, 8 all play a specific "rush" position.  Burns is getting ready to do so for the first time in his career.
  • Some of the other players on the list in front of him had a legit secondary pass rush threat so they were not facing as many chip blocks or double teams.
  • He came into the league much younger than some of these other players and has been ascending in production, size, and leadership
  • Yeah we gave up two first round picks
  • "You don't get nice things on Temu"..... If you want someone Elite, you have to pay them
  • Lastly, and IMO, most importantly.....  You set the example to future players that if you are drafted here, develop here, the TEAM WILL REWARD YOU.  That helps build culture.
  • The cap is going to increase significantly again next year to above 256 million.  That increase alone will cover his salary.

"Burns has recorded 30.5 sacks over the last three seasons — seventh most in the league — and his 174 total pressures ranked fourth.

I think bringing up Peppers is sort of relevant.  I don't think it is Burns hate to acknowledge Burns isn't a Peppers caliber DE.   Burns is more of a passing rushing specialist variety of DE.  And there should be a pay difference between the 2.  Bosa falls more in the tier Peppers once occupied than Burns IMO.
