On what $$$ Burns is eyeing vs Panthers FO

"General manager Scott Fitterer has said repeatedly that he wants Burns around for the long term. But while Burns is eyeing Bosa-type money at the top end of the edge rusher market, the Panthers are seemingly more comfortable with a deal that pays Burns about $23 million a year, similar to what Maxx Crosbyreceived (a $23.5 million annual value) when the Las Vegas Raiders extended him last year."

On a potential financial incentive for Brian Burns to go to Training Camp while holding out now:

"By coming to training camp, Burns avoided the fines that Bosa and Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones have racked up. The 49ers have said they would waive Bosa’s fines, which the NFLPA allows for players on their rookie deals."

On consequences if Burns continues to miss practice or potential games:

"The Panthers could fine Burns if he continues to skip practices. If he were to sit out games, he would forfeit nearly $890,000 a week — or 1/18th of his $16 million salary that was guaranteed when the Panthers picked up his fifth-year option.

On timeline for a resolution:

"Thompson believes a resolution is needed by Wednesday when the Panthers’ Week 1 work will begin in earnest: 'We know he’s gonna be out there at the end of the day,” he said. “He knows he’s gonna be out there at the end of the day. And everybody upstairs better know he’s gonna be out there by Wednesday. He’s a big factor (in) this defense. He’s the one it really starts with, him and Derrick (Brown). They’ll make it right.'"

For 23M, he better get 15 sacks and not get taken out of the game on run plays by tight ends.

I understand what you're saying, but the market is the market. It's his turn to get, perhaps, overpaid by a little bit, but not a lot. His age and potential is unfortunately a factor. All we can do is hope that he reaches his potential.

Yeah people forget the average price goes up every year. Lamar, Herbert, and Hurts don’t “deserve” to get paid more than Mahomes, but they happen to be the most recent franchise QBs that signed new contracts.

Bosa money means Bosa results. I'm pro Burns but even I know he isn't on that level. He could be. But this is on the front office and Fitterer. They signaled to Burns he's the golden goose when they turned down the trade. Should have swallowed their pride and ironed out a deal weeks ago.

Quite a lot, might be part of the holdup. But tons of contracts have ltbe and nltbe incentives in them. You can also do option bonus as part of an Escalating contract.

If he thinks he is deserving of  Bosa contract...set him up so that he gets that if he proves it.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
