Yeesh, reading through some of the stuff here, I see why I’ve tried to avoid being on here during this whole contract news cycle. A lot of unrealistic views on contracts and what not. No matter what we pay Burns now whether it’s $25 or $28M, the cap increases every year so the value of the contract looks a lot better over time.

Whatever they pay him won’t “cripple” the team because he’s not getting Bosa money. And he’ll get paid based on the market + production, not just production.

Chubb looks like a steal now…

And Crosby who signed last year as well.

Burns will get close to $30M and that’s fine because we didn’t trade him. All I will say is for that money (Aaron Donald/TJ Watt money), he damn well better take over games. 12.5 sacks doesn’t matter. Taking over a game matters at that price. If he does, he’s worth it. If he doesn’t, we’re morons for not taking the trade.

You all act like it is your money. It isn't. And whatever we pay him will fit into the salary cap. Next year his cap hit will be low on a first year contract rising each year along with the salary cap. Samir has this and has been expecting all of it. Expect Burns to be signed in the next day or two.

WTF is this not your money crap? Do you guys know who pays for these NFL owners and players to get rich? We do, the NFL fans who buy poo either from the team directly or from the players or from the TV networks who get money from advertisers selling poo to NFL fans.

The whole it’s not our money is a crock of poo and gets annoying. We all in here have contributed to players salaries pretty directly. As if these billionaires are actually paying these players out of their pocket. Does anyone not realize that the salary cap/what players get is based on the revenue sharing amounts? Acting like Tepper is rolling any of his Appaloosa money into player’s pockets to cover some short change to keep the NFL business afloat is comical.

Fan spent money is a drop in the bucket for the teams/owners compared to what they make thru the TV deals and what these owners make from their other businesses that gave them enough money to buy these franchises.

Don't try to say when you buy that tube of toothpaste, that you're paying money towards your favorite NFL team because Crest will advertise during an NFL game.

Also, whether fans spend a million dollars a year each on stuff or no money, the teams are still going to spend the same amount of money on their roster.  They're not signing better players because a team sold more jerseys or beer during games.

What? It's absolutely a factor. The heck do you think he did all of this for?

My argument remains Bosa isn’t the comp to align Burns’ contract too.   Comparable edge rushers are.

Burns can talk about Bosa all he wants.  If I am Fitt, I’m talking about comparable pass rushers.

    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
    • I said this ALL last season and will say it again this year. Our record means diddly squat this year, I don't care if we have 0 wins or 17 wins, I only care about one thing and one thing only. Bryce proves without a shadow of a doubt that he IS or ISN'T our long term solution at QB. It's the only thing that matters for the same reason it sucks that this is the same thing as last year.  This needs to be determined, and if they can't determine it, then it's still telling the team the answer, just not the one they want to hear. As right now we're in the ultimate QB purgatory, a position that dooms franchises for years.  Just look at a team like the Cardinals, who extended a better QB and it still screwed them over and haven't had a contending team in a long time. People get too caught up on wins and losses when evaluating players, particularly QBs.  When people look at the final record and use that as a reason to want to extend a QB or not is just a fools errand.  If we had lost 2-3 more games last year because we didn't make a last second FG, I genuinely wonder if we would have just moved on from Bryce this offseason (like we should have been doing anyways IMHO).
