We need to find some WR help

All the overthrows except for the route where TMJ slowed up after beating his coverage (wtf?) were on Bryce. Seems like that was a problem all game and may be something he can correct. They didnt seem errant, just consistently long like he was overestimating the speed of the WR.

Of the 4 crossing routes I can rememeber passes thrown, all 4 were near picks. One completion that was dang near intercepted, and the two we know of. Why we were still going to that route in Q4 I have NO IDEA.

Serious question... is it the WRs or the routes? I was super unimpressed with where the receivers were on the field all game.

We have weak WRs overall.  And Bryce and the scheme isn’t going to threaten downfield that often.  So it allows a D to zone in on more predictable route targets IMO.

If Bryce Young is your QB….you need quick dudes and dudes that can get quick separation.  We got basically zero of those types.   Mingo might become that but he is just a rookie.

I think you nailed it. It's funny because he's played for a million teams but watching this game today I was thinking about how even a guy like Brandin Cooks could help our team so much right now. We basically need someone that has a super quick and twitchy release that can reliably get open quickly on quick slant routes and such.

I was really really hoping Thielen would be our Next Proehl and Hurt our next Olsen. Thought Mingo might be sneaky fast and TMJ just needed his chance. It’s too early to say all of that isn’t possible but today was disheartening

I mean Ricky Proehl’s  best season was 400 something yards here.  Ricky was a roleplayer.

This is one of the reasons I was confused we included DJ in the trade up for Bryce. If the reports are true that they would have taken Brown and 1st, that would have been a much better trade. Why you would include your WR1 in a trade for a rookie QB is baffling to me. That's counter productive to his development.

    • Why not? Dude was tough as nails. Came off the field after a vicious hit and showed the coach how his ring finger was knocked out of socket halfway up. You could see the shock on Fox's face. Brad just  pulled  on the finger, grimaced, got it back in alignment and went back in for the next play and blew up an opposing linebacker or two. Dude is legendary.
    • Motown let on like he'd like to play at least another 5 years in his presser. I fell he was truthful and us fans over did his knee. The guy started like 108 starts in a row and only missed like 2 games over each of the past years.  I think as long as the team agrees with his value that Motown has, he will sign another contract extension to push the void years into the 2030s.  OLmen can play at high levels up til 40. Trent williams is doing it, Richie Incognito leftd and came back to play until he hit 38. Lane Johnson is still playing at a top level while 38. You member Greg Van Roten, he's somehow still playing at 36 and he started here after being a substitute teacher years before. If you are able to get over the 32 year bump, its possible to reach 38 with luck. Colleges do a poor job of preparing new OLmen, many times that vet is better.   Rams were begging Andrew Whitworth to come back while he was 39, if you got the genes, luck and still willing to put in the hard work....it is possible to play until 38 as a OLmen*starting level*
    • Shaq was a fantastic LB, he just happened to have been standing in the shadow of a Panthers great and a Hall of Famer. He was team-lead starter quality for all 32 teams of the NFL. Don't throw shade on him, he was never just a guy.
