this remains an unfair assessment.  The Carolina was just a QB away in 2022 narrative.  We played in a horrific division and had an easy schedule.  That's just a formula for a weak team to stumble into wins in a quirky season.   Then you add in opponents weren't equipped to deal with archaic football.

Carolina wasn't playing solid football last year.  They were playing 1950s football.  Which helped limit and show how bad we were as a 2022 NFL offense because we weren't playing like one....and it aided a OL that wasn't really good at pass pro.

The difference is that we weren't winning those games late last year because of the offense, it was the defense that was carrying us.  We then didn't lose any significant defensive players (at least before in-season injuries) while adding a few nice pieces as well.

Then on offense we brought back the entire OL while actually upgrading a few of the backups from the crap he had last year.  We brought in Sanders, who while woefully overpaid, is still a better player than Foreman is, while also bringing in Hurst as an upgrade at TE.  And sure we lost Moore which doesn't help, the WR room as a while is better last year with the additions of Thielen, Chark, Mingo.

I was never someone who thought we were a QB away from being legit contenders, I spent the entire offseason saying we were a 7 to 9 win team that would have a shot at the division or wild card, which I think that was a totally fair view of the team.

But again, the real problem is that the team sold the fans on Bryce because of his plug and play ability with the roster built around him.  If they sold him as the developmental prospect that he's looked like so far, after giving up what we did to get him, there would have been a serious mutiny by the fan base.

So sure, the team put Bryce in this position and that's not his fault, but that doesn't matter to the fans (nor should it) and he has to try and live up to what we traded away to get him.

we brought back an entire OL that was what? Decent at archaic football? They aren't being asked to do that.  That's not 2023 NFL football.   Those are 2 different things.  It's like old Cam Newton scoring some ugly TDs on the ground and then saying you don't understand why he also just sit back and pass.  He scored TDs!

I'm not sure Miles Sanders is a better RB than Foreman.  What shows that?  One season as an early down RB behind the Eagles OL?  Foreman would abuse folks running behind that Philly OL.   Because you couldn't play Foreman.

The biggest problem is people buying into the Panther PR/fluff.  It was talked about going in.

-this wasn't an allstar staff

- the backfield wasn't strong enough nor suited for the offense we would be running

- the WRs didn't suit the offense we would be running

- defense were going to come out and sit on the small ball pass attack and make life miserable for Bryce

- OL leans toward run blocking that doesn't mesh well with what Frank + Bryce  marriage in 2023

- Frank Reich is a horrific playcaller that will compound every issue and should never call plays here.

People just didn't want to listen.  All the above was said and predictable.

Annnnd there it is. AT is wiiiiiide open. It honestly doesn’t get anymore open than that. That should be a dart down the seam for 6 but instead we got nothing.

He’s simply unwilling to throw it downfield. We have a poor man’s Jimmy G that we traded the farm for

I'm not the only one who actually read what Seifert wrote below this clip am I?

"There’s no doubt that things can look a lot easier after the fact on tape from an aerial view, but it’s still funny how the replies are everything from of course he should have thrown it to, well actually, Joe Montana couldn’t make that throw."

I mean if that's not Huddle I don't know what is. So many convinced that it was a basic pass. Others saying not so much.

I said two years ago when watching Darnold: Whoever watched him play in New York and decided to spend draft picks on him should be fired. And, apparently, that person was Rhule and he was fired...eventually.

I'll say the same thing now, two years later: Whoever watched Bryce Young and decided he was worth TWO first round draft picks and D.J. Moore should be fired. I'm truly not knocking Young. I'm knocking the Front Office. I simply don't see anything in his game that leads me to say he will be a great QB in the NFL. Not an elite arm. Not elite accuracy. Not elite speed.

Does that mean he will be a total bust? No. It really boils down to what are your expectations. I think it's fair to say give him time. I think it's fair to say with the right coaching and talent around him, OL, he could become a good NFL QB. Great? I don't see it.

But...was he worth giving away the the 2024 first round draft pick...when you knew Williams and Maye were going to be in the draft in 2024? I don't think so.

But it wasn't 2 1sts right? One was a swap of 9 and 1. Then the 2024 1st. The transaction was a 2024 1st and DJ Moore for the right to swap places I thought.

Or was there another 1st that I missed? Otherwise we have to stop this "giving up 2 1sts" point--it's just not true...unless there's a 2025, 2026 or some other 1st that Chicago is owed.

True. My mistake. The Panthers traded their 2023 and 2024 1st round picks and DJ Moore for Bryce Young. Three good players for Young. Was that a good trade? I guess time will tell. I guess the Panther front office believed the 2024 pick wouldn't be very high so it was a good trade. Unfortunately for them, it's looking like it will likely be the first pick in the draft. Oops.

Also 2023 pick 61. Could have been Dell, Mims, Downs...

Wide open on the 7 yard line coming across the middle of the field.  The defenders are guarding the goal line against the vertical options.  It may not have been a TD, but certainly knocking at the doorstep and opened up several options for 3rd down.

Ugh, ball’s gotta be out. One guy to shake for a TD. Did Young get sacked here?

I hate to say it because I just wanted the top rookie for once. I’m not going to say that I’m a QB whisperer so I would have been happy with any of the three we loved. Personally, I just hated giving up so much. What I hate to say is that I don’t think Young will ever be anything besides just OK if he has great weapons. That’s not the first pick.

He’s got a serious fumbling issue. Every time he gets hit or hit hard the ball is out. Three starts and 2 fumble TDs on sacks. We will lose a lot just because of that.

He also hasn’t had success deep. He didn’t go deep at all on Sunday and part of that IMHO was because we were in a 1 score game the entire time. When we got behind the first two games the deep balls weren’t accurate. No idea if the WRs were at fault or not but they just didn’t look promising.

The impression I got from Reich's presser is that they did draw up some deeper routes, but they abandoned them for some reason. Sounded like BY changed the Play. Am I wrong?

It wasn't abandoned but we cannot get open down field due to lack of separation from their underrated secondary. However, we can get your Sam D that you want so badly over Bryce to pass down field to his favorite ghost receivers. Enjoy!

His actual play isn't that of a #1 overall. He is going to be a relatively decent QB. He just isn't a good fit here, with this roster. Everything that went on to get him here was a mistake that is going to hurt us for a while. Reich is not helping him. He, also hasn't helped himself. Imo, it is a combination of horrible coaching, a limited QB and asking an offensive line who is average to below average, to do too much. Bryce takes the snap almost 7 yards deep, then drops another 3-4 yards before he can operate. It is damn near impossible to hold blocks for someone who consistently drops that deep.

Yeah those deep drop backs were fine at Bama when he had the protection/time and WR’s that are wide ass open but in the NFL he doesn’t have the arm strength to make “NFL open” type throws consistently
