Which mistake was the biggest

90 members have voted

  1. 1. Which of these would fix the Panthers the most?

    • Not having chosen David Tepper as an owner.
    • Not having hired Scott Fitterer.
    • Choosing someone other than Frank Reich as head coach.
    • Taking someone other than Bryce Young at #1.
    • Not making the trade up to #1.

The single common denominator and the fact that we have sucked since he took over in 2018 is Tepper

This. Everything football related that David Tepper has touched has turned into dog poo. Ever since Tepper started "putting his stamp on the football side of the house" in year two after focusing on the business side in year one we've been on a fast track to become the new Cleveland Browns.

The only stamps I've seen on his football organization are the mushroom stamps our opponents put on our foreheads every Sunday.

Which mistake would be most likely to right the ship?

I was always in the other front runner(can’t remember his name now but I’m pretty sure he was the Charlotte local one) for ownership camp so that’s an easy decision for me. Follow that with not getting Fitts and actually getting a GM that was above Rhule.

My magic wand would take us back to 2013 and promote Brandon Beane to GM.

As for keeping it more recent, I would go back to the 2022 off season. I detailed my targets in the offeseson. FIRE Rhule & Fitterer in January. Remove Chosen from the roster & never bring in Mayfield. Trade Brian Burns and Derrick Brown before the draft. Trade down to accumulate 10 to 12 draft picks. Hire a coach and GM that committed to build an offense around CMC, Brian Robinson Jr, Garrett Wilson, DJ Moore and Jelani Woods.

Turn the picks from trading Burns & Brown into Devin Lloyd, George Karlaftis, Coby Bryant, and James Houston IV.

Load up on overlooked/underrated QBs to compete with Darnold. Desmond Ridder, Aqeel Glass, Brock Purdy and Jack Coan.

That's what I wanted. My magic wand doesn't seem to work. Maybe I can find a magic lamp.

Yeah that also requires a LOT of things to go right for us.

But, couldn't be worse off than we are now.

Tepper not cleaning house the moment he signed the check was the start of the decline. Not cleaning house again before this next iteration is continuing the fall. But his biggest failure is not hiring an executive that has a proven background (Steelers) is his and his alone.

He couldn't clean house either time. He has no fuging clue what he is doing. He needs some input because he knows nothing about the NFL

But do you trust Fitterer to do the right things with those picks?

No but we may have been able to use the Rams picks instead and kept Moore. Based on last year’s ending, the Bears and everyone else would have pegged the Rams as vying for top pick especially after dumping Ramsey, Lloyd and others. They’ve gotten lucky with some draft picks performing well above so our pick will likely be higher than theirs but the perception pre-draft was the opposite.

I’m not a Fitterer fan by any means but if we at least keep Moore and keep the 1st in 2024 that could be Caleb Williams then maybe we’d fire Fitterer/Reich but still be able to rebuild without waiting years.

Right now, it sucks to read your choices knowing that we don’t have the draft capital a normal rebuilding team has and we don’t have the pieces to really build without a tear down.

Tepper and it's not even close.  We struggled to some extent, but there has been nothing but straight misery since he took over.  Without Tepper, Matt Rhule would have NEVER been our coach.  Without Rhule the GM (Fitts or other) would not have been hamstrung for 3 years.  That said, you have a college guy trying to build a NFL roster. After that disaster, you have a GM on the hot seat making rash decisions trying to save his own neck.  Then you have a #1 overall draft pick at QB, ready or not--NOT--the coaching staff is forced to play because to don't bench the top draft pick.  Now the new coach is quickly becoming the scapegoat because the rookie in all his hype is playing, well, like a rookie.

Fug, we're the Jets south.

    • They've gone way overboard with the masking of plays by only filming the ball in air.  Nobody is analyzing camp highlights.
    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
