Calling it - the Bryce Young trade is the worst in team history

For sure it will be the moment we hand the Bears the #1 overall pick which happens to be a transcendent QB in Caleb Williams.

Any time a team has the #1 and #2 pick in the draft back to back you're going down in history those are franchise changing situations.

Word is that Williams will stay in school if certain teams have the first overall pick. I’ve also heard rumors about Maye returning as well, both are in a financial situation where they could do so…

NIL money is definitely going to hugely change these decisions. When you can get paid millions in college there isn't this desperate need to go pro as early as possible.

Tough to evaluate after 4 games.  Tougher when the head coach and offensive coordinator can’t tell you what their identity is on offense.  The players look lost because the coaching is lost.

The easiest thing for Bryce would have been to focus on improving the run game from last year-something that was already working…

Wonder how long the tail is gonna be on "it's only been XX games, I'm not giving up hope yet!"

The Hutchinson pick is an inexcusable mistake for a guy who's defining feature was supposedly elite processing. Bryce was able to fulfill the "point guard" role on Bama teams with stacked o-lines and very good skill position depth charts. Now that he's expected to elevate the worst roster in the league, we're seeing all of his limitations. 1.1 should be used on a guy who can raise the game of the whole offense, not a guy who needs a perfect situation (clean pocket, dominant run game/defense, two stud receivers, whatever) to win. Add in the fact that they traded another first/second/solid receiver to pick him and that's how you wind up in this situation. I'm not giving him any credit for "stepping it up" against prevent in a couple fourth quarters.

Can't help but feel that if they kept Wilks, they'd at least put Bryce in a slightly better position by emphasizing the run/PA, but he doesn't look super comfortable under center anyway, so maybe it would still be a disaster. Maybe Stroud would look equally as inept under this staff if they drafted him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This. It's going to result in a lot more highly-recruited QBs (and players in general, but QBs especially) transferring as well if guys like Caleb Williams stay. It could result in some very interesting decisions for schools and players.

Texas has a potential situation like this right now with Quinn Ewers, Maalik Murphy, and Arch Manning. If Ewers doesn't go pro after this year it's going to get very interesting.

Which one of those did a team trade their best WR, 2nd round pick, and next years 1st to draft?

That's actually the point. I am not anti-Bryce. I think with good help, he could be a solid NFL QB. But to give up all they did? You had to hit a home run from game 1. It's just too much to give up for any player otherwise. You dont give that all up to "wait a couple of years."

It's not on Bryce. It's on Fitt and Tepper.

They will both have a situation where the Panthers are looking at the top pick in 2025 as well.

Boy that would be hilarious imagine Chicago when they have the the #1 and #2 pick and neither Caleb or Maye are in the draft. Yikes!

Yes the Goff trade up was the closest and they got to the playoffs with him, and he kicked our ass today. Bryce won't be starting in 7-8 years unless we still have the same dumbass GM and HC

2016

ten.png&h=110&w=110lar.png&h=110&w=110

Tennessee Titans to Los Angeles Rams

Player picked at No. 1: QB Jared Goff

Titans received: 2016 first-round pick (No. 15; subsequently traded, WR Corey Coleman), 2016 second-round pick (No. 43, DT Austin Johnson), 2016 second-round pick (No. 45, RB Derrick Henry), 2016 third-round pick (No. 76; subsequently traded, OT Shon Coleman), 2017 first-round pick (No. 5, WR Corey Davis) and 2017 third-round pick (No. 100, TE Jonnu Smith)

Rams received: 2016 No. 1 pick (Goff), 2016 fourth-round pick (No. 113; subsequently traded, LB Nick Kwiatkoski) and 2016 sixth-round pick (No. 177, TE Temarrick Hemingway)

Yep.  Not to mention they drafted Goff at the tail end of Fisher when that organization needed a larger reboot. Snead wanted Goff, Fisher wanted Wentz or a FA.  Fisher buried Goff and didn't play him, fans thought he was a bust after being thrown in at the end of the season in a bad situation.  But thing was, he was advertised as a prototype, just not as NFL ready as others so it wasn't lost a new coach could help him.

And behold...Fisher gets fired, Snead finds a compadre in McVay who comes in and suddenly Goff looks like a pro.  28 TDs, 7 INTs his soph season, in the SB within 2 years.

You're going nowhere without the right GM & coach.

Both Caleb Williams and Drake Maye could bust in a bad situation.  Happens all the time

    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
    • He wasn't a JAG, he's been a starter every year of his career. Didn't turn into the superstar it seemed like he might his rookie year, but I think part of that has been being misused. Guy was/is a baller.
