Thomas Brown if he turns this offense around

Has there ever been a time in NFL history that a team fired his HC to hire one of his coordinators to replace him?

I doubt it, because it would make no sense even if you knew the coordinator was destined to be a better coach, just like with McDermott and Rivera.

Also, it seems like the only thing that is changing is play calling, I'm sure game prep will still be all the same between Reich and Brown, I don't think you make a HC change solely on play calling.

And finally, at this point, Bryce will need to be playing at a literal All Pro level the rest of this season fro Brown to sniff any HC jobs.  Looking at the last 3 offseason's of HC changes, the worst record for the team the new HC came from (excluding non previous HC's) to get an HC job was 9-8.

I don't care how much teams might like his potential, nobody is hiring the OC of a 4-13 or worse team to be their new HC.  There'd be a better chance of another team stealing him to be their OC than someone hiring him as an HC, short of us going like 7-4 down the stretch with the offense putting up video game numbers.

Will be our coach next season. It just makes too much sense, you cant risk losing a young offensive minded coach who can grow with a franchise qb. If Brown has success with the offense and developing Bryce hes HC next year.

most likely not, if he turns the offense we end up winning more games and everyone ends up staying around. I dont think there is a scenario where Brown coaches well and Frank gets fired.

In this scenario, couldn't Tepper just offer him more money to stay as OC until Reich is out?

That's probably best case for Brown anyway.

It's tough for a coordinator to turn down a first time HC job, so if he were to get an offer, it would need to be a team he wouldn't really want to go to and Tepper make him a stupid money offer to stay.

It would be different than Ben Johnson, the Lions really did have something going and would be contenders this year, and knowing all the QB's coming out next year, being the OC to lead the Lions to playoff wins will get him any job he wants.

I'd bet money right now that Johnson is the HC of one of 3 QB's next season, Williams, Maye, Herbert.

But basically no matter how much we turn it around after the bye, there's no scenario where we're looked at like the Lions were at the end of last year, he's not coming back here for a 2nd season if he gets a HC offer elsewhere.

We're 0-6. No one is getting poached from this team

Eh, not necessarily true.

If McCown was one of the guys who didn't want Bryce, he'll have plenty of opportunities to be a QB coach or even a OC on a team where the HC runs the show with other teams.

Yes, a team turns it around and the HC is fired because the OC did his job.  Lol, the Huddle is good for several laughs a day.

Best thing Reich could have done for the team, the season, and his job as HC was to transfer playcalling duties over the Brown in preseason and only take over himself if it was a collosal failure.

Head coach doesn't need to be the OC or DC. He doesn't need to be focused on one side of the ball. Oversee the whole game abdet your Coordinators take the lead on their phase.

Hire the right people and trust them to do their job their way. You give them a direction and a desired result and you trust them to get you there

Guy is a RB coach. Not a QB coach.

I don't understand why people have faith in him to be some savant OC when he apparently has played a large role in creating this playbook that no one seems to like but he never gets blamed for.

I do not know enough about him too make these kinds of assumptions about his abilities, what are people basing their optimism on, why is he credited as the one that isn't a reason for 0-6, Bryce, etc.?

Please explain.

Is there a source for TB wanting Bryce?

While he didn't directly come out say it in his introductory presser, Brown hinted multiple times in the direction of Young if you listen closely. Part of me also thinks that Josh McCown was also part of the group that wanted Bryce too.

That said, I said this off-season that if we truly hit on this staff that I could see one of four young coaches (Brown, McCown, Evero, or Staley) stepping in as HC here once Reich retires... It was just a matter of if they want to wait.

I didn't want a defensive guy as HC but the only exception to that would have been Ryans or Evero.

I guess we will see how this outcome works out at the end of the season.

    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
    • You do know the biggest military base in the US is located just an hour from Raleigh in Fort Bragg right? Military families are family oriented. A hour drive to games is nothing compared to traveling 3 hours to Charlotte.   Cmon man there is nothing happening in Western Carolina other than Charlotte. I only go west for outdoor activities and some nature/mountain views.
