New team president

I just watched and interview with Cam Newton . He was asked what position he would like with the Panthers . He replied that he would like to be team president .  Love him or hate him he is larger than life .  He identifies what the Carolina Panthers mean to the fans . He would put all he has into bringing back the fans and the keep pounding identity of the players .  How do you feel about this . Give me your thoughts .   And keep pounding !

The same way being a good hedge fund manager doesn’t make you a good owner. Being a great QB doesn’t make you a good team president.

Some of you need to just appreciate ex players for what they were/are. Just because they were great players and love Carolina doesn’t mean they deserve a coaching/front office position.

It doesn’t mean they don’t deserve it either.

None of us know Cam well enough to determine whether he would do well or not at the job.

If anyone other than Cam Newton was doing these interviews everyone would be telling that player to seek help. He said “I never smoked Marijuana a day in my life(lie), I just keep in on me bc I like the aroma” explaining why he smelled like weed. You want this guy as president!?

If you don’t think Cam would make a great president here, you’re delusional or blinded by his over the top personality.

He legit talked about how important it is to have a pulse on the locker room, relationships with the leaders of the team, how to get the fan base excited, and how to provide valuable insight to the GM and coach about personnel, etc.

That man is the best thing that’s ever happened to the Panthers and Charlotte, sports-wise, ever - hard stop.

He would play such an integral part in that position making us relevant again.

What’s the issue with that?

He literally stated he’s never had a sip of alcohol or smoked weed. Weed does smell good.

These over the top southern moral crosses are a little dated, I would highly suggest visiting other parts of the country some time.

Obviously absolutely not, but it would be awesome to have him in a high up position that isn’t responsible for actual operations.

he is the very definition of fan favorite, I’d be all for making up a “Public Relations Liaison” position or something where he is very public facing.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
