Niners are doing it right. They have a former smart but hard hitting safety as their GM, brought in a tough and innovative run first offensive HC, keep bringing in smart tough hard hitting players on both sides of the ball. They are the epitome of a nerdy tough guy identity - top to bottom, front office, coaching and players alike. They know who they are and bring in guys that fit. If there is a team to emulate, it's them. Bring in a GM with similar preferences/background, and put him with Slowik. I don't care if Slowik is the HC or the OC, but get him here and overpay to do it.

Number one right now is probably the Chiefs.

Steelers had been the top of that list for years, though they're arguably not what they used to be.

The Ravens under Ozzie Newsome, perhaps less so under Eric Dacosta but still up there.

The Patriots, if you like the "evil empire" management model.

The Cowboys might be if you exclude Jerry Jones from the situation, but you can't.

The 49ers, Bills, and Rams have risen up on recent years.but are still in relatively new territory.

Some might say the Browns should be in the discussion but the Deshaun Watson deal sinks that idea for me.

Those make sense, not sure I agree on Dallas. They certainly are popular but Jones seems to hold them back. Steelers and Packers were who came to my mind. Ravens and Niners were good calls. KC seems to be more got the right coach and qb, won't really know until one or both leave (maybe thats unfair). Steelers seem the most consistent across time.

Lol lord is there no Patriots entry here? They have been the gold standard for 20 years. Or, maybe they made 19, orc 18, due to the last couple of seasons. (oops, yeah Baltimore for sure). 

But I’m going them, Steelers, KC, Saints, Bills, a few others, but it’s changing. Some teams have turned it around but I just can’t make myself write their name in this kind of discussion.

Ravens are very well run.

Always make good draft decisions. For years they seemed to always have the most comp picks, etc.

Steelers are great too. It’s an open secret their owner is very involved but stays low key about it. He has a lifetime of experience to draw from though.

      Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

      I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
