No, he didn't. If you want to give Bryce a participation trophy, be my guest.

By the way, were you even alive back in 03? I bet you were but a glint in the milkman's eye back in 2003.

You said 35 yard line, not 35-36 yard line. It's not my fault that you were imprecise, but I suppose when you are trying hard to hype a perfectly ordinary throw, you need to stretch it as far as you can, going so far to dig up old Alabama tape. Who gives a fug about what he did in Alabama? What has he done in the NFL? What will he do in the Arena Football League?

Cool so we agree Bryce has an NFL caliber arm and can make the deep throws a NFL qb should make?

thank you for agreeing. That’s the point of this thread. You have folks like this CRA fella and this LinvilleGorge guy that are saying it’s “subpar” “can’t make all the throws” etc.

simply not true.

You can do all the coping you want to do but it doesn't change the reality that Bryce's arm limits the passes he can attempt vs. other NFL QBs.

Yes, his arm strength is absolutely 100% subpar for an NFL QB.

Do you actually believe that Nicole Tepper made a pick that we traded away two firsts, two second and DJ Moore for?

I mean, really, how in the world could you really think she made the pick. Stroud called her mama Tepp, maybe she was the only person that actually said draft Stroud. I get the Tepper hate, he’s hired seriously terrible people so far but it’s truly comical that with ex-NFL QBs, ex-coaches who coached HOF/pro-bowl QBs and tons of NFL experience on staff before the draft that people actually believe Nicole Tepper made that pick.

We fuged up the pick and many other picks/trades/non-trades the past few years but I personally guarantee that Nicole Tepper did not draft Young.

The premise of your argument is that you are privy to inside information and I am not.  And if you are a concrete operational thinker, you miss dry humor and ambiguous suppositions--I said, she may have had a voice in it.  It was really a subtle joke about how shotty the front office is, but now I am defending myself against someone who seems to get angry when he thinks he has spotted a comment by someone else that does not comport with his opinion.  No, I do not think she made the decision, but the part where I said "She may have had a voice in it" seems to have been overlooked by you--maybe the rage, the eyes tearing up or the frothing at the mouth--I don't know.  She is a part of the ownership team. Take a deep breath, regroup, and read all passages to the end instead of until you see red flags of disagreement.

The problem is nobody really knows the problem.

Question:  Is Purdy better than Young?  Not the team, stats, etc.  As a player, how is he better than Young in terms of skills, etc.

If there is a difference, it is this:  You see the best of Purdy--the supported player with limited talent, a great defense, good OL, excellent weapons.  You see the worst of Young.  No consistent support, no oline, few weapons.

If you put Purdy on the Panther roster in 2023,  wonder how he does?

If you put Young on the niners roster in 2023, I wonder if he plays much better?

USA Today:  After acquiring the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 draft this past spring, the Panthers sent a massive contingent to attend the pro days for each of the top quarterback prospects. Tepper and his wife Nicole, the chief administrative officer of the team, were part of the group.  HEADLINE OF ARTICLE Reporter: David Tepper 'heavily influenced' Panthers' selection of Bryce Young

Nicole has a role in the front office, regardless of her qualifications.   Her husband "heavily influenced" the Young pick.  Do you think Nicole, who visited the pro days, did not share her opinion with her husband?  And do you think it is unreasonable to assume her opinion influenced or empowered him in any way?

Ahead of Bryce's pro day (Nah, Nicole did not have an opinion):  Fr6lvwUXgAIOLah.thumb.jpg.83192d120bc4cdda57fc4ef20819e535.jpg

Nah, you may be right.  Nicole is not involved.  She probably did not share her opinion with her husband.  How stupid of me. nicole-tepper-talks-with-carolina-panthers-quarterback-bryce-young-9-before-an-nfl-football-game-aga--2023-in-charlotte-nc-ap-photojacob-kupferman-2T03T90.thumb.jpg.2947f6eee952b929ae289f2a8f0637ff.jpg

Cam wasn't protected well by his oline but he wasn't given any of the protections other QBs in the NFL got. Bryce was sacked by fingertips and Cam had guys launching full speed at his head helmet to helmet. Bryce has never taken the kind of hits Cam did.

Well no poo.

Drew Brees didn't have the best arms ever and he's one of the best to ever play. You didn't need a bazooka and arm strength was never the reason he was drafted.

again I wanted Stroud at 1 but what's done is done, I for one would rather cheer for my team than just constantly poo on them. If Bryce is god awful next year at least we have our first round pick

Senseless,  endless debate.   Stroud was the choice.  No debate there.  Ship sailed.  Bryce has to get bigger, more aggressive, more of a "dawg" in the next 6 months.  If not,  he's gone.   We move on in 2025.

That's not entirely true, at least in Bryce's case. He showed up to combine 15 lbs heavier than he played at to give the appearance of being bigger. He also didn't throw against his competition for the top spot at the combine. Then there was the S2 that he supposedly dominated so well that it made all his other competitors look uneducated, despite his having practiced for the test for years and Stroud's released score possibly being released with the incorrect number. And lastly, there's the dinner where he broke down a play so eloquently that even Dave and Nicole were amazed at his intelligence.

I'm not saying Bryce is the only one to manipulate the system, but let's not pretend like he didn't manipulate it. It's up to whoever is making the decisions to see through all the BS and make a proper evaluation. Our problem was, 1/3 of those responsible, and ultimately those with the final say, don't have the first idea about how to evaluate a QB for the NFL level. Hell, one of them had barely finished the class on how to even take part in anything to do with the NFL.

So he did that to fool the Panthers into drafting him 1st overall? How dumb to you think these nfl folks are anyway? If anything, that was a reason NOT to take him at all.  Sheesh you guys will find anything to blame him with for being taken 1st overall. You can blame the Panthers for that.

People can certainly blame the player. Might not be fair based on your own individual opinion. But that's sports. There's no shortage of 1st overall busts that have taken a heap of personal criticism. Was anyone saying what you're saying on behalf or Jamarcus Russell? Hmm? Nope.

Bryce Young got a lot of cover from the media due to playing for Alabama while CJ Stroud was portrayed as a pretty much an idiot and vilified for his upbringing.

It shows not much has changed with the draft process unfortunately.

    • Bryce isn't a risk-taking gunslinger.  That's just QB DNA.  No one has ever said that is what we were drafting when we went that route.  That's my point.  That's not Bryce. Can you make Alex Smith throw deep? Sure.  He will occasionally.  In the reverse, can you ask Brett Favre to just take the easy layups? Sure.  He can in moments.  But in the end, they are what they are.  as I have said, Canales probably could win more games with PJ Walker.  And Bryce is a better overall QB than PJ.  PJ Walker would also have much worse games mixed in that Bryce would.
    • From what i see, Canales offense requires a QB that is willing to take chances to maximize the offense. XL is also the kind of receiver that needs a qb to be risky to bring out his full potential. Its just a matter of if Bryce is gonna be that QB.
    • Baker just played how Baker played.... everywhere but here. He is a risk taking gunslinger.  Always has been.  And last year was asked to be what he was.   Geno Smith was the best deep ball passer in the NFL his comeback season.  Wasn't even close that year.  Again, that's the type passer Canales has always been around in the offenses he has been part of.  The pass game that compliments the stubborn run is the deep chunk play pass game.   And that was his first investment with XL.  My continued point, is the same as going into last season.  It's a bad marriage going in.  The QB doesn't fit the scheme.  Again.  Carrol/Fox/Ron....all paired up their boring football with risk taking QBs.  And again, I'm fine if that is where we are going.  It's not my preference but that's not my argument.  I'm saying if we are doing that, we need a QB that matches it.
