Mahomes accounted for 399 of KC's 455 yards. He led the Chiefs in rushing too. Pacheco was largely a non-factor with a fumble turnover and a 3.3ypc average.

Meanwhile, CMC led the Niners in rushing and receiving yardage for 160 combined yards. Purdy was 8/8 for 80 yards and a TD throwing to CMC. He was 15/30 for 175 yards throwing to anyone else.

Wilks went to his old ways, in fact Shanahan called a timeout to get Wilks to get their D outta cover zero/zone cloud when KC had the ball in OT.

Wilks decided to go cover zero zone because the Bengals & Bucs were the last defenses to do that to Mahomes & they won. The DL had to contain & run down Mahomes for the Bengals & Bucs.

Shanahan made it easy on Reid & Mahomes forcing Wilks out of that gamble.

Wilks did his homework. Shanahan showed championship panic.

Running backs just aren't that important to an offense. They're a complimentary piece in the modern NFL. It's why even when Christian was here breaking records we still couldn't win over 5 games. The quarterback is king.

Yeah, the QB is king but a big part of the Niners loss tonight was trying to lean too hard on their JAG QB instead of focusing on feeding their best player. Trying to ride Purdy up 10-0 let the Chiefs get back into the game. For a good chunk of that game Shanahan just forgot CMC existed. Was he trying to prove something? Was he trying to make Purdy a star? I don't know the reason, I just know that Shanahan poo the bed in the middle portion of that game trying to act like he had a dude at QB while it obviously wasn't working. He had to fall behind before he finally went back to riding CMC again.

Thats basically what cam said.  Game changers are like 4-5 players, he listed Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, Allen and Rodgers.  The rest are varying degrees of game managers, knowing how to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers.

I like Lamar Jackson, but Purdy played a much better game against the Chiefs than Jackson did.  Jackson made a couple of god awful throws.  Of course, I guess you could say that those were "game changers" but not in a good way.

That's Shanahan though, a choker through and through. However, as we've seen on the Panthers, just feeding Christian wasn't the answer either. It leads to a lot of great stats for him, but it didn't win games. A running back is going to have a difficult to impossible time trying to carry the team on his back if ever down in points. It's just too easy for a defense to focus, clamping down on the run. Christian is an amazing running back, but we all remember the number of times in his years here he couldn't power through and get the game winning touchdown. There was actually a compilation that trolls liked to post of him failing to punch it at the redzone.

This is only news to certain people.

Like the ones who value a running backs stat line over anything else.

wasn't Purdy's TD to Jennings?

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
