Top pass rusher on the team. Period.

2 most important players are the quarterback, and players that get to the quarterback.

There is literally no way we could replace him this year.  May not be able to replace him next year either.

Doesn't matter what talent we add to the team if we can't get to the quarterback.   Without him we don't have 1 true starting quality pass rusher.

I pray a resolution is found that includes him remaining with the team.  I also pray we get him some real help.

It is irrelevant that he is our best pass rusher on our team, his pay and importance to us is about how good he is compared to others around the league. I mean would you pay top money to Tremble just because he is our top TE? Or top money to Chuba because he is our best RB? That kind of reasoning makes no sense.

I do like Burns, but not enough to get even close to what he wants.

This logic shouldn't need to be explained.

Burns is never double teamed or schemed around.  He just isn't what his fans pretend he is. But this team is so desperate to have a "name" to pretend that is elite that they will overpay an underachieving player to say they are the franchise edge rusher.  He's just a jag and will never be more than he is right now.

Ive just seen him totally getting taken out of the play 1v1 against a tight end or a chip block too many times.

All y'all that wanna trade him to "get what we can" will be the same ones complaining about no pass rush.

Burns, Brown, need to be built around ESPECIALLY while we have a rookie QB contract.

Having more picks is just lottery tickets when you know you have a capable player. I would not pay elite money, but he deserves an extension.

julian weighs in on burns today.  All in all the situation is pretty bleak and totally mismanaged.  Holy fug fat fitterer was horrible at his job

cliff notes: best case is to figure out a deal, the tag is going to be expensive in regards to our cap and letting him walk would suck but would be easier to sign free agents and rework other deals

I’ve been an NFL fan longer than the Panthers have been around and I’d say Fitterer is easily the worst GM ever. The negative impact he’s had is astounding. Even a guy like Matt Mullen at least drafted a HOFer. I wouldn’t be surprised if not a single player in 3 years of drafting even makes a pro-bowl for us.

If he was adamant about not taking a game changing trade for Burns then he should have had a freaking extension signed that day. It’s been 1.5 seasons since he turned down the trade and Burns’ value has plummeted. We could have kept DJ and CMC and used the Burns picks to move up. SMH, instead we’ll probably get a late 3rd round comp pick.

as much as it might pain us to not get anything for burns...i really just want to separate ourselves from as many mistakes as possible. whatever should have or needed to be done with burns, should have and needed to be done at least a year ago.

we don't need him hanging over our heads like this. we have too much residual from fitt that needs excised from the organization as it is.

he isn't going to make us competitive. all he's going to do is clog up cap space.

i think this right here is major fug up #2 with burns. we missed out on 2 incredible opportunities to trade him that could have really helped us this year under the delusion that he was invaluable to this team.

we're not going to get an extension done because he wants too much money and he probably thinks he can get it somewhere else...and he wouldn't be wrong. but we'd be wrong in giving him that kind of money because he's just not worth it. if he has he hasn't shown it. he's not the kind of player the team is supposedly looking for now. he's soft. talented, but soft. he'll show up every once in a while, but all it will do is piss you off and make you ask why we don't see that more often. the answer is he just doesn't care and i don't want to bother with him.

whether we have a pass rush or not next year doesn't depend on burns. he hasn't been the factor he's hyped up to be. he's just a wannabe spiderman.

He wants "elite" money. In my opinion, he's not worth it. It is a bad value. I don't believe in bad values. I also don't believe that at least some of his production can't be replaced. We didn't get much of a pass rush last year, so if we get just about anything it's a literal improvement. No more bad contracts! If he wants to lower his expectations around 8-12 mil per year from the 30-32 mark, then we can talk. He should've taken the 27 when it was rumored to be on the table. He isn't even worth that. 20-23 and we can talk.

I understand he shouldn't be paid elite currently.

As much as people are going to judge Dan on this saying we can't afford to to keep him, Dan should be fired for allowing us no starting pass rushers in a passing league.  The stupidity of that is beyond approach.

The ship hasn’t sailed on at least getting something decent for Burns. Just have to be patient.

If he refuses a long term deal near the tag value (not near 30 mil), with real incentives added in, you just have to tag him and start working towards the trade deadline.

Someone with something to play for will pay something to put him in their ready to go defense. You only need two competitive teams where that kind of help could decide which one advances, and a trade deadline. Dan Morgan will be looking good about then.
