Carolina Panthers will have trouble building roster for 2024

I’m prepared to suck again but hoping for 5 wins. I know it will be hard to do sadly.  I just don’t want to see any dumb contracts handed out. Also really hope to hit on 2-3 future starters in the draft. I’m not against one more year of Jackson or Sanders then move in next year for dead cap purposes.  I try hard to be optimistic just is getting tougher and tougher.  I was really hoping Mays or Zavala could take a guard spot to save some money to spend elsewhere but just can’t seem to do it. And LoL at our TE situation.

Young's average time before a pass is 2.89 seconds, 10th-longest. He has held onto the ball an average of 2.84 seconds when blitzed, sixth-longest.

This dosent fit their narrative that Young wasnt given a chance.

He is supposed to have 5 seconds of pocket time and WRs with 5 yards of separation.

Exactly. Also it needs to be 5 yards of separation within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage so he can make an accurate pass

The salary cap can be easily manipulated and it makes sense we do that to get cap room. Otherwise Burns has leverage in negotiating knowing we need his cap space which will be significant. Expect Moton to be restructured  and suddenly we have cap space for what we want. If we show him we can operate without his space then signing him is more likely.  Sure we might kick the can a little bit down the road out of necessity,  but we don't need to tank this year.

Oof. Moton and Christensen are the only two guys on our roster who could conceivably fit.

That is what I was going to say---I thought Bozeman was not good last year, but it could have been due to being flanked by reserve guards. Corbett played about 4 games and was not good.

If we go with a wide zone BS, I would think that Ekwonu could become a G--but I am only speculating

Final pearl of wisdom:  I think the secret to free agency is signing a player with a question mark (coming off a surgery, following a bad year, etc) and doing your homework.  A signing like Sanders, for example, from a team the a dual threat QB and a great OL, was stupid.    I hated it at the time and we are paying dearly for it.  Hurst?  I'd rather have Tremble in the game.  Now, we did this with Chark and it did not pan out.  Not that bad of a risk, honestly.  Thielen was a good signing.  He panned out, but they were under the impression we would be competitive in 2023.  Time to refocus.  Build the OL, draft weapons, and move on.  Trade Burns if it helps--if it hurts the team, keep him.  duh.

at #33 i think you take the kid out of Georgia as he checks all of the boxes Ladd McConkey.you look at what the kid can do &  he is probably one of the more complete players in this draft at wR  as he can block well exceptional route runner play him outside or inside & even mix it up a little out of the backfield.

I think we just have to hope that sanders was bad due to lingering injuries and bad OL play.

That Bryce will look capable.

We get another receiver and minho develops.

And OL play and depth improves.

That should get us a couple more TDs a game at least and we could look at least competent going into next year.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
