How would you feel if he was the pick at 33? He reminds me of Luke in some aspects. Physical and plays sideline to sideline. Good in coverage and plays fast. D.M probably loves this kind of player and being an MLB doesn't hurt either. Fits the mold he is looking for.

Shaq is coming off a major injury and isn't getting any younger. Grab a WR or Edge at 39 and a Center in the 3rd.

Possibility?

I have read his scouting report and he is athletic and gifted but I prefer Payton Wilson or Jeremiah Trotter Jr. If Wilson didn't have injury history, lots of people say he is a first round talent as a MLB, that says a lot.

Trotter will be lucky to be a 3rd rounder with his man coverage issues and inconsistencies as a tackler in a MIKE role.

I see Colson as the best true ILB in this draft. Wilson and Cooper are exciting but not as sure things. Then there’s quite a dip in a rather shallow group.

It’s a need as Jewell+Shaq may not last more than a season, so we’ll see. Personally, I’m preferential to Junior— who knows.

I get not a lot of people watch ACC ball but it’s Payton Wilson for me and I’m a UNC guy.

Wilson arguably had the best season of any linebacker in FBS football last year and he does everything well. He can get after the QB, stop the run, he’s great in coverage, his angles are excellent, etc… All of his question marks (i.e. injury history, strength, and age) have nothing to do with his actual play.

Just watch his tape against UNC, he absolutely dominated.

His competitive nature is exactly what the Panthers need.

I’d take the risk that his injury history is behind him and that with some NFL weight lifting, he’ll get a little stronger.

    • Nope, not trying to be controversial, just factual. This is a message board, and for me it's just a discussion among--many of us--longtime buddies. Of course we have some pricks, but that's the Internet. What I will say is that it's fair game to discuss Tet's 40 time(s), and if there is a controversy (which I guess there is among NFL types), he is the author of it, as he refused to run it at the Combine.  I'm generally a Tet guy, so I believe he can at least be an effective chain-mover and threats in the Red zone. I woukd prefer to think that that's his floor and not his ceiling. Now all the "he's a top [this]" or "he's gonna be a top [that]", for me, doesn't amount to a hill of beans. He's going to have to come into the NFL and prove that he'll be able to separate enough and catch against pro DBs on a consistent basis. Once he is able to do that and establish some type of track record (no pun intended), then we can start rating and slotting him in regards to his peers.  On an off note, if Mason Graham slides, I think we have to take him. I don't think Carter is sliding. After Graham and maybe Jalon Walker, it's all up in the air. To be honest, I might give Tyler Warren the edg over Tet though--might--due to versatility and "dawg" factor, but I go back and forth with several of these guys.
    • I totally agree.  Hopefully he is able to balance both.
    • from Thursday’s Athletic Mock   8. Carolina Panthers: Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia After considering offers from the Steelers for George Pickens and Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Panthers stay put and are the first team to draft a Georgia defender (in part because the Eagles aren’t picking until 32). Using a top-10 pick on a player with minimal production in college is a risk, no matter Williams’ physical gifts (which are many). But the Panthers are banking on big upside from one of the youngest players in the draft – one whose final season at Georgia was slowed by a high ankle sprain. Williams’ best games came against top competition: He had two sacks in a victory over then-No. 1 Texas, two more sacks in the SEC Championship triumph over Texas and three pressures in an opening-week win versus Clemson when he initially hurt his ankle. — Joseph Person
