If You Could Choose Two Players for Our Two First Round Picks, Who Would They Be and Why???

Ladd at 33, Zach Frazier at 39. Perfect draft

I think Ladd will bulk up. I know that's his biggest weakness, but he just is always open like Puka Nacua. We desperately need a player like that and if Dionte Johnson has a good season, that should give Bryce three targets in the mid range

Frazier has a chance to be the best center IMO and should start from day 1. Just super solid technique and with added power/strength in NFL conditioning no reason why he can't be Ryan Kalil.

Also would accept JPJ and AD Mitchell. Not too high on Worthy or Legette, but if available in the 3rd I would think about it.

Give me the best WR and TE on the board. I just can't deal with another bad offense with no weapons again. We gotta give Bryce a fair chance. If he can't improve this season with the weapons we put around him it's time we move on.

This is not 2023, there is no TE worth pick 33 or 39 aside from Bowers who’s going way before.

Ladd and Sanders would be great, and possible.

Xavier’s x 2

Worthy & Leggette in whatever order

We’d have our X and our Theilen replacement. If they show out to be studs as rookies, ship off DJ & AT at the trade deadline for picks or secondary help.

I'll go with Ladd and JPJ. I think they would both be able help the team right away.

I really want one of the picks to be a center unless Barton, JPJ, and Frazier are all gone I guess. And if that was the case that probably pushes someone down to us at 33 who isn't supposed to be there .

When people say "BPA" they need to be more clear.  I think you need to consider the rarity of athletes coming out at the position.  For example,  Mel Kiper defended mocking JJ McCarthy at #5 in his mock, but he defended that decision by saying McCarthy was actually #14 on his board.  If it is simply the player, he has no business in the first round--so by putting him at #14, you are including his position rarity.  That is not an excuse to jump 10 spots later because QBs are rare.

However, I would devise a formula that has a scale of points that add up to 100 (for example).  Maybe 20% of the scale would be position rarity--how difficult is it to find a successful player at each position.  Since QB is a tough position to fill, a QB would get all 20 points.  A LT and edge might get 17 points.  A Guard might only get 7.

Other areas aligned with performance would not be related to position value.

OK, now let's take a look at the menu--what positions are needs, what is their rarity value, and when are the best players expected to go in the draft?

In this draft, LBs drop off pretty quickly around round 3.  In my humble view, CBs of equal value can be found through round 4 into round 5.  So if all things are equal during the draft, I take the LB and get the CB next time around.  I know this is common sense, but when you say BPA it does not make it more simple-still have to navigate the draft.

BPA is a case by case deal for me. Just say you already have a stud young RB under many years contract on the roster, but your BPA is a RB. Say you rate the draftee RB 87, * but there's a CB with a 85 rating also there. Bonus you have two open spots at CB. At this point I believe you should draft the CB and not the BPA RB. BPA can be said as BPA in terms of need/want. *But you could tell yourself injuries happen and it was the former GM who gave that RB a healthy contract, thus in turn draft the BPA RB.......

Im a huge value nut that also a part of the complex formula. Also Im firm believer in the longer the draft goes, the higher value needs to switch to "upside". Cause looking at nearly all teams draft hauls, most times only 1-2 guys remain on the team out of the 7 or so picks.  Plus I know starting in rounds 5(mid)-7 the success rates favors the IOL and DBs. Id follow that myself too.

Plus where you are drafting makes a big deal as well, cause if you have a great team, maybe using the 29th overall pick on a OG makes more sense than the team drafting 2nd and needs everything.

Tempted to take best available WR at 33..but have seen our O-Line suck for so long that I want to invest into more.

33 - Zach Frazier. He would solidify our o line more and hopefully be a long term replacement at that postion for a long time. He’s got the alpha attitude Morgan is looking for.

39- Ladd Mcconkey. This is a toss up. I’m fine if we take best available TE (Sanders) or WR. in saying that…I would love to have Ladd here.

33. Bpa.

Why? Because we need it.

39. Bpa.

Why? See 33.

Don't overthink this.

I think it should be best impactful player available. We just spent a small fortune on 2 guards. If BPA was a guard that wasn't likely to crack the starting lineup for a couple years, that would be a bad pick IMO. I know we don't have many, if any, of those guys really, but likelihood to get playing time has to be taken into account for a pick(s) that high in the 2nd for a team with so many needs.
