CBS does not think Bryce makes the leap

Ranks Bryce no.4 behind Stroud/AR/Levis

I just don't feel it with Young. And what do I mean by that? Well, firstly, I didn't see any flashes from Young as a rookie. You know, a few games-- maybe not even consecutively -- where he looked confident and poised and that combination led to quality results.

There was the 300-plus-yard effort late in the season against Green Bay that stood out. But even if that game was encouraging, it was thoroughly outweighed by disastrous performances. In my weekly grading project of the first- and second-year quarterbacks in 2023, Young had one "A" grade and two grades in the "B" range. All of his other starts ranged from a "C+" to an "F."

Yes, that Packers game was impressive; it's just too difficult for me to see him repeating that type of performance on a regular basis because of his lack of physical tools. He doesn't have a strong arm by NFL standards. It's not brutal, but it's not doing him favors frequently. He's a good athlete but not nearly dynamic enough to repeatedly make defenders miss or scamper away from oncoming defenders often. His accuracy and processing are his two strengths, but neither are so spectacular they negate his hard-to-improve weaknesses.

The Panthers did make somewhat of a concerted effort to build around him, trading for underneath separator Diontae Johnson in March before moving up in the draft to select South Carolina's Xavier Legette. I still think Carolina's receiver group will struggle to collectively get open, but the offensive line should be sturdier with free-agent adds Robert Hunt at right guard and Damien Lewis at left guard.

I don't have enough belief in Young's tools, nor the roster in Carolina, to predict Young making a leap in Year 2.

I mean if the Panthers are drafting in the top 3 next year then its a lock they are taking a QB, because that would mean Bryce isn't the guy. No team that has the one of the worst records two years in a row keeps their QB after that

Right?

I haven't bailed the Bryce boat yet, but come week 5 or 6 he has shown zero improvement I'll be ready to take whoever the new hotness is at that point.

I don’t think he does either, but this was the year to get a QB (if only we had made the right selection). Not last year. I don’t even know who’s available in 2025.

I'd rather have Stroud than anyone in the recent draft

Will Ferrell Lol GIF

It's so bad that the guys talking about the next draft are on point when the rest are just selling hope for a few months of clicks and another top 5 pick even with him improving from historically bad to just regular bad.

    • I’ve seen mock drafts have us picking the OSU DT Kayden McDonald. If he is BPA I’m for it. I still remember the days we had Short and Star anchoring our DLine on the best Panther defense. https://catcrave.com/panthers-forecasted-baffle-fans-with-first-round-decision-2026-nfl-draft
    • Not the best year to need a HC. I haven't heard much about the Texans DC getting any looks
    • I have not seen a good fit yet as a HC hire. Honestly, Saleh is probably the best one and that’s not saying much. Miami- Hired a DC with an average defense. Check the rest of his resume. It also doesn’t solve your main problem at QB with Tua/Ewers, etc. Clear downgrade from Mike McDaniel. The owner obviously thought he had a shot at Harbaugh and fired McDaniel to throw his hat in, Waller has an interview that gives the impression of this. Atlanta- Stefanski has won like 6 games in 2 years. Carried a few years ago by his defense. Defense has gotten older and he got exposed. Brought into Atlanta with a DC he didn’t hire. No idea what they are going to do at QB, no 1st round pick, a lot of resigning. Oh and their Dan Morgan/John Lynch/ John Elway guy is Matt Ryan who has not worked in the front office at all. At least Dan was a scout, director, asst GM, etc. New York-Not bad really but he’s only going to be as good as his OC. Joe Schoen is still the guy getting your talent, and good luck playing Dak Prescott, The Eagles D, and Jayden Daniels 6 times per year with the NY media writing about everything you’ve done wrong. Tennessee- meh. Probably should have gotten an OC to develop Ward but Saleh can at least make this team aggressive and physical again. I doubt many wanted the job. If Saleh fixes the culture and gets a decent play caller he will be okay. The GM there seems promising. If I had to rank the rest of the openings I’d say: 1-Pittsburgh: Enough talent to be competitive. Have some things to fix at key positions but long history of success and winning is in that building. Plus, you get Baltimore and Cleveland twice per year (I’ll get to that). 2-Baltimore: What in the ever living hell makes you think it’s time to walk away from Harbaugh. He didn’t leave like Tomlin, you fired him then the owner joked about it at the press conference. Who did you ever think you were going to get better than him. Somebody to support Lamar? Like drive him to the practices he never attends? 3-Buffalo I mean you get Josh Allen but they promoted Beane to be their Morgan and if you watched the Press Conference today the owner made Tepper look like Arthur Blank. Basically said he fired McDermott just over losing to the Broncos. Beane got up there and poo on a few players. The two leading candidates are Joe Brady, your current OC and Brian Daboll, your former OC who just got done running a circus on the other side of the state. Like the Ravens, who did you think you would get that was better? 4-Las Vegas Spytek seems competent as a GM and Brady is in the building but there is a real stink culture built into that organization that somebody is going to eventually have to fix. It seems like everyone that gets close (Gruden, Carroll, Pierce) gets fired. At least you have a shot with a potential Franchise QB in Mendoza. 5-Arizona Gannon just collapsed. Don’t know what happened, but it seems like Kyler is gone with no real plan in place. Maybe resign Brissett? Maybe take another down year and just rebuild the roster? Who really knows. I don’t see them having any shot landing a big fish, I honestly forget they don’t have a HC half the time. 6-Cleveland There’s a reason McCarthy and McDaniel turned them down. Still have Watson on the books. Have to deal with the Shaduer fans and haters. Aging defense. Don’t imagine Schwartz will stay on as DC if he is turned down, so there that goes. Honestly, I think Schwartz by the only guy that wants the job.
