Least excitment before any season?

Where does this season rank as the least amount of excitement before any Panthers season?  To me, its dead last.  i just dont see any hope unless Canales pulls 2002 john fox  moves.  Speaking of, that season I have zero hope going into it  but ended giving me some after 1-15 to 7-9.  Same with 2010 but we at least knew we had Cam.

What say everyone?

For me it's not dead last although it isn't far off realistically.

I like a lot of the moves that have been made and I think so long as Morgan can draft well and Canales is holding down his end of the bargain in coaching on gamedays and keeping us ahead of the curve compared to the dinosaur head coaches of yesteryear we should be able to at least compete. What pulls down the optimism is the fact that we gave #9 absolutely zero push in the QB room. I really would have liked to see us take a flier on a QB with one of our late round picks. It remains to be seen if coddling Bryce will pay off but we do not seem to be learning any lessons in that area after the last several years that has been a revolving door at QB. Still. Despite what others might mistakenly insinuate I do have some hope. It will be even higher if we look good in preseason. Until then for me the rollercoaster that is life as a Carolina Panthers fan rolls on.

I guess the past few years have conditioned me to have lower and lower expectations going into a season.  I guess it's my own mental health's self-preservation mechanism.  Because of that, I feel zero excitement right now, none.  I know I will look forward to the opener, but Bryce gives me no level of confidence, so I guess I will be marginally excited, then when we drop that season opener, I'm sure I'll give up that night.  We're in a very low place.

I’m intrigued. I think we should get a lot of questions answered. How does our new HC adjust with his new role, a better assessment of our QB, how important was Burns to the defense, can Evero piece together another defense with limited parts etc…

in terms of just the Tepper era, the only season I was less excited about going into was 2022.

Going back further gets tricky, Ron always had Cam.   So probably would go to the Fox's dead man walking 2010 Clausen year.  Fox and Ron generally had superstars that you could do fandom mental gymnastics with.  Cam, Luke, 89, the Fox's defensive crew, etc.    We just don't have the talent to pull of the mental gymnastics the same.

rhule's last year was probably the worst for me. fox's last year with clausen was pretty rough to walk into as well. i was legit pissed about the clausen pick. i tried to be ok with it, but there was nothing good about it. fox had been done for a couple years. the year after the last superbowl run when gettleman gutted the team i felt pretty miserable about the team, just defeated, and rivera just wasn't doing much to instill confidence

i feel pretty good about this one. pretty hopeful. having a new HC helps out a lot. teamed up with a new GM helps even more.

i like the GM, i like the coaching staff. i like the direction of the team.

bryce may or may not be it, but i think we'll be better than last year.  if we have to on from bryce, i think we're set up nicely for a new QB. i think bryce will be fine, though.

I'm like cautiously optimistic that we won't be the worst team in the league, but even then I'm meh. I used to be borderline obsessed with the team and football, but as each year of the Tepper era went by I've gotten less and less interested and find myself getting more into baseball and hockey. My main hope is this team is fun to watch again and that it puts some pride back into this jersey.

This is comparable to the last Matt Rhule year, but with slightly more hope.

There was 0 hope that 3rd Rhule season. I know I personally am willing to give the new HC some grace since he was given fuck-all to work with in terms of a roster core after Rhule, Fitt, and Reich blew it all to hell.

    • I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.
    • I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.
    • You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
