How is it sunshine pumping to acknowledge the defensive roster is mostly ass cheeks and bandaids?

Becasue they are dead last. You don’t get a pass for being dead last in the league. I think they would still suck with their starters. I would rather see the younger players that have heart vs guys like Shaq that are stretching out those play days.

This offseason they let 4 starters and multiple key rotational players walk. Threw all their resources into offense in an attempt to salvage Bryce's career.

Take that paper thin bottom tier talent and add a bunch of injuries, the D is being held together by duct tape and super glue at this point. Any team not lead by some Gardner Minshew level QB is going to shred these guys.

If you've been watching good DCs for a while, you know bad personnel and good DC gets a team ranked between 17 to 22. Bad DCs finish in the bottom 10 regardless of personnel. Good DC with good personnel is top 12.

Good personnel never carries a defense without a good DC. The MOST IMPORTANT person on the defense is the DC.

Stop making excuses for Evero. This defensive scheme is easy to read/call for college coaches.

What DC had comparable talent to this present day roster whose team was ranked between 17-22…..the past couple seasons?

To an extent I agree with your general gist but this roster is uniquely bad

...I mean...our cornerstone is a 30yr old shaq thompson...whos name is never uttered over the loud speaker...

Our cornerstone is on IR for the year. The defense needs an injection of talent and youth next off season but we have to live with this poo this season. Especially with all the injuries we've had

It’s not going to improve much as our entire front 7 is injured or old.  The team is, however, functioning.  Let’s relish that for a bit before we bemoan a tattered defensive unit.

Yeah I don’t understand the lack of perspective. I think this team is worse than the 01 or 10 teams in terms of talent and it’s going to take a while to catch up from all the bad decisions.

    • Given that the immediate impact we need at edge. We almost certainly address that in Free agency, not in the draft. Same with Linebacker, unless Styles or Allen is still there at 19. I think the same for OT.  What is the position that we could draft in the 1st round and get immediate help in the first is how im approaching their decision-making  I know ill get dragged for this, but im thinking they go DT in the first. A guy that can play right away and be a complement to D.Brown to wreak havoc at the LOS.   So unless a top tier LB is there, I think DT will be the move.
    • I think people forget that by his last season Steve Smith had the ass and he played like it - and for no really good reason other than that other stars were emerging on the team and he didn't want to share the spot light.  He was more of a locker room distraction than he was worth. He went on to have great performances with the Ravens' but G-man made the right move allowing him to move on from here.  I personally think it was addition by subtraction and we don't have a super bowl run with Smith on the roster. Steve Smith remains a narcissist who I've never seen internalize his own culpability when it comes to his relationships with others - it's always somebody else's fault as to why he was forced to act like an asshole. This video is a product ad.  I'm cringed that either of these two Panther greats are party to it.
    • I think the ‘issue’ here is that we had two guys that clashed for several reasons. In some ways they were different, but in other ways they had a lot in common, and sadly they couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Sometimes when you have two people like that together they are either going to love or hate each other, and if it’s the latter, you need someone to mediate and hope the two individuals are capable of putting their differences aside for the common good. In this instance, they couldn’t find a way to move forwards together because I don’t think either guy wanted to play second fiddle to the other. This video basically said neither guy had the tools to bridge that gap and mend that fence, and perhaps also were unwilling to give an inch at that stage in their lives and careers. So a divorce, while unfortunate, was always likely. Do we win the Super Bowl with Smitty and Cam? Well, it’s one of life’s big what ifs for us Panthers fans.
