I agree better than nothing but I almost feel like it could be worth taking the chance to see if he would be interested in long term here. They need to feel him out and see how he feels about the long term. If he is in it for the long-term here I would hang onto him but if he says he probably is not I would consider moving him. Hopefully everyone is honest with one another

It's okay to discuss it now, not like it will progress to signing in a week or two from here. 

As far as his price on an expiring contract, having the inside track to a potent WR, if you think you are about to do something, that is a feature.

It is an edge for your team, if you decide he fits (and also depending on the other UFA WRs which I haven't looked up). But it adds an incentive in the right market. 

We can also bluff that we are getting a comp pick either way so why would we sell close to that...

You don't HAVE to trade him, but you can give people the opportunity to get some bidding fever going. 

As far as drafting we need to remember both our the top offensive coaches came up working with receivers. I think they probably have a good eye for evaluation relative to the fit they want.

I don't think we need to tie our past WR flubs to these guys.

Raiders are hoping to get a 2nd for Adams and we have people thinking we’d get a 1 or 2 for Johnson LOL

I'm not thinking we would get a 1 for him, I'm just saying I wouldn't trade him for less than that and would hang onto him. I would prefer not trade him at all and see about keeping him long term

I havnt looked, but heard adams is due like 45 million next season, they will scare off everyone...then you factor in age......

If he is not going to sign then he is not going to sign and you have to deal him for whatever you can get.  That would be very panthery to simply let him walk without any draft capital

It’s a tough call. I love the guy’s game and it’s really difficult to find a player who can do what he does…. But it’s almost like ptsd. We have a history of getting roasted with overpaying 1 year wonders and it ends up setting us back. 

On the flip side, we have the chance to have 3 really, really good receivers for the first time since…. 2003…  Dude goes across the middle and is not shy of contact. His YAC is impressive. 

priority numero uno of the offseason is locking Andy up for at least 2-3 years. Critical for developing Mingo and XL. I really want Thielen back. Is there room for Johnson to stay with what he’ll demand? 

Either way, I’m really enjoying the ride and do trust Morgan. I’m being patient with his additions. Thus far, not a peep from Tep which is refreshing.

Yeah a 4th round pick isn’t worth it most of the time. Here’s our 4th round picks since 05:

That’s 20 picks. Of those 20, right now Boston, Haynes and Chuba have proven to be valuable players relative to the draft position. The jury is still out on Zavala and Sanders. The other 15 were largely useless, either complete busts or marginal role players. Given those odds I’m not trading our best receiver for a 4th. If that’s the offer he stays the rest of the year and we try to do a deal in the offseason. Id consider a 3rd but if a contender loses a key receiver the price could go up.

      if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying

      So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
