Dalton Honeymoon Over

There was never any honeymoon only a brief period of release of knowing that we could actually at least halfway compete with a QB willing to make all the throws more often than not. Andy Dalton seemed like the smoking hot girl at the bar by proximity due to how bad the other QB was.

What we are seeing now is on the coaching staff. Canales and his staff have to show they can consistently compete in this league circumstances aside. Every team deals with injuries every team loses talent and every team has to pick up the pieces somehow some way. We need to see the staff do that now the rest of the way through the season. Nobody wants to hear about this or that anymore. Just give people some semblance of hope more often than not. Today was not that.

We're a team predicated on running the ball. We got down 20 quick because our defense is in shambles playing backups at key slots. Dalton had pressure getting through most snaps.

This was a full team L, not helped by Dalton having a bad day. If he plays better it's likely a closer game but a loss.

If bryce steps back on that field I'm done this year and so is majority of the fanbase.

Why anybody dense enough to think the overall fans and probably the players want to go back to last year and the first 2 games of this season is beyond me.

Lastly, there were never any insane expectations set on Dalton to act like it was some sort of honeymoon.  We weren't even a high school offense with bryce out there. The graph at the beginning of the game said it all.

We play Bryce for one reason - to lose every game the rest of the year. I think I've seen enough of our defense to know pretty much everyone sucks. And with the way offense is getting injuries, we might know everything we need to in that regard also

Dalton was up against tight secondary defense, and a lethal pass rush. That's asking a lot of any QB, and Dalton is ordinary and old. He can't be the world beater who just makes one amazing pass after another. On a good team he can steer the ship. On a bad team we're dead in the water. We have a horrendous team. Just look at the defense. Pass coverage looser than a wizards sleeve, zero pass rush, and terrible tackling. On offense we have journeymen WRs who can't get open and win 50/50 balls against top quality secondaries. They can get open against lower tier secondaries, but that's no the Bears. They had them covered tightly. Dalton is not Mahomes. He's not superhuman. You're asking too much. One hard throw after another is a recipe for disaster. He can't keep that up, and Young can't do it either.

We basically have the worst defense in Panthers history. On offense we can only cook if we're facing a lower tier defense. Once the we face tight coverage and a solid pass rush we're in deep trouble, and the defense couldn't bail out an ounce of water. The defense would allow a 50 burger if the opposing team wanted to go for that instead of killing the clock. 50 burger defense means our offense has to look amazing, but overall the roster is poop.

What to do? Young is still on the team. It looks to me like we're keeping him. If that's the case, then we might as well put him in and see what happens. This team, with this defense, has no chance whatsoever of making the playoffs. There is no way. But can Young make a comeback? I say use this season to find out. We know this is another dreadful lost season. We know it's over. Find out about Young, and move on if he doesn't show improvement.

Dalton can be good on a good team, but he's only ordinary and getting older. We need a couple of off seasons to rebuild this roster. By the time we're ready to go it will be too late for Dalton. I hate it, but this is the aftermath of Fitt's mistakes. This can't be fixed anytime soon. We're cooked, but we can find out more about Young. Might as well, and if he's terrible all season then it's easy to trade him.

The fact we are even discussing Dalton as if he is the reason we lost today or was supposed to carry us just shows the thinking spectrum of this fanbase.

We are truly lost.

Probably mostly bitter Bryce stans looking to feel better by blaming Dalton.

It isn't like he played great but give him the team had at the Raiders. Some protection. We had the number 4 guy at best playing the second receiver. And yes he missed some throws too.

Sanders needs to get some Oklahoma type poo in front of the jugs machine. Pop him after every catch. Every one he doesn't fight for he owes you two more.

That was just some serious pussy poo from him today, it's a big one in the what to expect from him department.

If "see it wasn't Bryce Young's fault" is all someone takes from today they are beyond help and just pushing an agenda.

And regardless of the QB situation we are on our third coaching staff in three years already. If you want to keep being the doormat to the entire league then keep firing coaches every year and see where that gets you.

This is bullshit. It IS Young's fault. We HAD a functional D last year and had to sell it to get Young "help" on O that he cannot do poo with. Face it, we sold our team for him and he is not even NFL material. HE is the reason we are here, along with Tepp and Fitt.

Great point, I feel like it doesn’t get brought up enough, all the crap this team gave up to get and to help Bryce. All of that and he still sucks, they shouldn’t go back to him, he has to be done here.

    • Ok fair to judge only his starts.  But you do acknowledge that going from "he's waaaay above league average in a number of categories" to "here's a single stat where he's above league average (not "waaaay") and another where he is exactly at the league average" is a pretty significant backpedal, no?  I'm guessing he's probably in the ~10th range for completion percentage too if we're only looking at starts (I'm too lazy to isolate his starts and do the calculations), so I'll grant you that one too.  But I don't think completion percentage is all that meaningful as a standalone stat if it isn't bolstered by good TD%, Y/A, etc. On that note, for how much people like posting Passing Charts in here (*cough* CRA) - if you peep Shough's passing charts, he hasn't completed a single 20+ yard pass in the past 3 games combined.  His last one was in Week 13 against the Dolphins, which was a single pass of 24 yards.  I just want to be consistent in how we apply our standards - I think it's always been warranted to criticize Bryce for it (even dating back to his rookie season), but do we suddenly not care about that with Shough? And yeah I did acknowledge that Saints' fans have reason to be excited about him and complimented his poise, which is giving my props.  Still not sure I agree that he looks better than a "ton" of QBs nor do I think you or anyone have really demonstrated that.  I think you are generally one of the more reasonable level-headed posters which is why I'm confused at what I consider to be rather hyperbolic language about Shough.
    • I don't disagree with you, but want to point out that Tremble's strong suit has always been blocking. Case and point: on Horn's 25 yard run, he lays down not 1 but 2 nice blocks...and is looking for #3! https://www.panthers.com/video/jimmy-horn-jr-s-25-yard-run-gives-panthers-red-zone-access-on-first-drive
    • It is a popularity contest.  The selection does have meaning though. It is also 1 of the criteria that is considered for the HOF. The game does not have any significance. The team hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade. That's why they don't get primetime national coverage. To the victors go the spoils.
