2025 Cap Room

Interesting thought is to absolutely tank your cap by taking on Desaun Watson's contract

Cleveland gives us Watson and two first rounders for like a 7th round pick.

Immediately cut watson

We basically fug our cap for two years, but who cares. We aren't going to be good next year and maybe, maybe be turning the corner the year after. If all goes according to plan we enter 2027 with a bunch of cap space and tons of young talent (+ maybe a QB from the 2026) draft

I agree with everything but Daniel Jones. I'd honestly rather have Dalton than him

I feel like I'd rather have Dalton too but if Canales and Morgan wanted Jones I would be pretty excited. If they could "fix" him to the level Baker and Geno got he could possibly be the best of those 3. Young, runs like a deer, arm strength for every throw, has always played behind a really bad O Line

They've already gone the FA QB route which is what they would have to do again eating up most of the space freed by Watson. They'd be better off to keep those 1sts, draft their own QB, and kick Watson to the curb as soon as his contract is up.

A young QB on a rookie contract is more valuable than a vet QB. Unless you're the Panthers and your shiny new QB is a huge little anchor.

Do that deal but instead of the 7th give them Bryce

Don’t think Cleveland would give us 2 firsts, but I’d do that in a heartbeat to tank hard in 2025. I’d even tell them to give us 2026/2027 1sts if they hesitate on 2025 since they are bad now. It would be good to not waste a year of a rookie for no reason. We need draft capital and a good drafting GM (not sure Morgan is good).

Right now according to Sport Trac, we have about 41 million going into next year. Having Bryce designated as a post-June 1 trade is 6 million in dead cap but frees up 4 million. In the far right columns you can see what post-June 1 cuts would give us.

These moves alone free up an additional 50 million in cap space with 20 million in DC. This is not counting restructuring the contracts of Brown, Hunt, and Lewis.

Why would we restructure?

Additional cap. It's an option.

If we want some of the FA names that keep getting thrown around this board you have to pay for it. Especially to come here, our price will be more than everywhere else.

No we need to clear these contracts and go from there.  Read Vincent richardson Twitter thread about it.  He lays it out nicely

Man we are in a really good spot next year. Have another good draft, pay Horn, hopefully Brooks hits, add some pieces on D in FA, and go get a mid tier veteran QB at $10-15M per (Jones camp here if Giants let him go) or extend Dalton if that’s what coaches want. No reason we can’t be playoff competitive in 2026

Another good draft?  We haven’t had one of those since 2017

Don’t think you can say that about this year yet. If brooks ends up being as advertised then we have 3 starter quality rookies from first 3 picks. XL and Wallace have done nothing but show consistent week over week progress. Even Sanders is looking a bit better each week, just coming along slower.

add on top of that we somehow came away with a 2nd round pick for a team currently tied for worst record in the NFL

Hell, Mike Jackson was essentially our 7th round pick.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
