The Carolina Panthers are banged up heading into the final two games of the season. The team practiced Thursday without five starters, including cornerback Jaycee Horn (hip).

Horn, right tackle Taylor Moton (knee), outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (elbow/knee), and inside linebacker Josey Jewell (head/neck/quad) were seen on the practice field, but didn’t take part in team drills. Left guard Damien Lewis (illness/ankle) and nickel corner Chau Smith-Wade (illness/chest) were also held out of the workout.

If Horn were to miss the Week 17 battle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Panthers would probably need to rely on Maiden, North Carolina, native Caleb Farley, among others, to make up for the loss. Horn’s status for the game is in question after sitting out the second workout of the week.

Moton and Lewis, if they were to miss the game against Tampa Bay on Sunday, would likely be replaced by Brady Christensen and Chandler Zavala, respectively. Smith-Wade, if sidelined for the game, would probably be replaced by veteran Dane Jackson.

The Panthers are particularly light on inside and outside linebacker depth, so Clowney and Jewell will be worth monitoring on Friday. The team signed linebacker Chandler Wooten on Tuesday to serve as insurance for Jewell, while second-year outside linebacker DJ Johnson would likely get the call to replace Clowney if needed.

im really surprised the line opened at 8.5 seems large to me.

Tampa is desperate for a win to save their hopes at a playoff birth. It looks like we have a ton of injuries and we never have any answers for Evans and could be without Horn and several others. We also obviously can’t stop the run and Irving killed us in the lasr game. It’s not a crazy line. I think Tampa wins by 7.

I don't think its crazy, i just think it is large. I could see it being about 4.5 to 6.5. But this does feel like bait for bad betters like myself to take us to cover lol

I see a little irony in there somewhere. Many were worried about Bryce not being tough enough for the NFL. Well, I think he's proven that he's one tough kid.

Won me over completely last week when he laid out that missile of a pass right before taking that hit right to the face, then popped back up smiling when he saw the completion. The kid has moxy.

    • What?!?!?! Chark's 1,000 yard season was 4 years before he played for us and he only had 525 yards in 15 games as our #1 WR.  Dude has 3,100 yards in 7 seasons, he's the literal definition of a JAG and you think he is better than half our current WR room? T-Mac is literally already better than Chark was at his peak, which again, was years before he ever even put on a Panthers uniform, and there is a real argument to be made that XL and Coker were both better as rookies than Chark was for us in his one season here.
    • Im glad we're starting low. It's nonsensical to put us at 28 IMHO based on objective things IMHO (I think 21-24) is far more appropriate but whatever. Washington was at the bottom last year FWIW.  In 2003, Sports Illustrated said our best chance to win the division was to transfer to the ACC. In 2015, everyone wrote us off as a team that snuck into the playoffs with a losing record in 2014 and lost our best WR in TC (Kelvin Benjamin). All these videos are fodder for conversation, but this prediction has no more validity than saying the Panthers are making the SB bc we're starting the season against the Jaguars again. If Bryce plays like he did down the stretch we will end up the season just fine. This roster is much better than it has been the last 2 seasons. No one knows who any season will ultimately end up, but this team is finally being built in the right way, and the idea that this roster can't compete this year is as insane as being it was when we were gaslit in 2023 that we were a rookie QB from winning the division with that roster.
