Lawrence Taylor was 240.

I should have worded it better, I meant the last very small edge with success at both is von. LT is the best defender in NFL history. Still Many OTs during his era were in the 280 range, with him it didn't matter tho. Just like with any spot a ultra small player is against the odds. I think Carter will measure small figures against a few categories.

Carter might go top 5, kiper was just saying on the draft special other day that he heard teams really love walker too so he might not be there either when we pick. Imma be pissed if we miss out on both of them.

Kiper is not a guy I would listen to. There are a lot of good NFL draft guys now and he is one of the absolute worst.

Well it wasnt his opinion he was quoting. He said he talked to execs in the league and a lot of them really liked walker. For the record I don't care much for kiper either but that wasn't his opinion he was just relaying what he heard.

The size thing doesn't get to me.  I feel many still are looking through the 3-down 4-3 lens.

This basically IS the prototypical modern EDGE size minus the outliers who can play all schemes and are 6'4+, 260+.  Miller, Parsons & Mack examples aside, just look at the younger blooming guys right now:

Anderson Jr. 6'4 243, Bonitto 6'3 240, Tuli is 6'3 265, Byron Young 6'2 250, Highsmith 6'4 242, Huff 6'3 255, Verse is 6'4 260, Herbig 6'2 240....

Even TJ Watt's playing weight is in the 250s.  It's about playing strength.  Taking from that list above- PIT has 3 main rotation pieces at the edge that are 255, 242, & 240.

That being said, I'm still really lukewarm about this kid.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
