The problem with it isn't about it being successful or failing, it's what happens if they BOTH happen?

What does Jerry do if Shedeur is amazing but Deion is an awful coach, or if Deion is an amazing coach but Shedeur is shitting the bed and it's clear very fast that he needs to be replaced?

You're tied to them both and if you need to replace one, you are going to need to replace both as there's no way you can get rid of one while the other one stays.  If you cut/trade Shedeur, Deion is going to quit.  If you fire Deion, Shedeur is going to hold out and demand a trade.

And these days, how many coaches are able to stick around for 10+ years with one team like you hope the QB you draft will be there?

It's almost like the best case scenario for them is that they do well for a few years and when you have to fire Deion to bring in a real NFL HC, Shedeur is good enough to get you a good return in a trade.

I get why the Cowboys got there in the 90's, but I'm shocked they're still #1 on that list, they seem less relevant than ever.

The rams play in LA where 10 mil people live - it’s the largest market in the country.  It doesn’t hurt that they won a Super Bowl recently.  

Theres nothing east about Dallas but Jones has wielded his power with the nfl  to make sure his team is in a division with rivals that have some of the largest market shares in the nfl and play in the best prime time spots.  They are always in the spotlight for better or worse.  He makes moves like this that are absurd football wise but media wise pay huge dividends.  Hes great at keeping the brand relevant.  He bought the team for 140 mil and now it’s worth over 10 bil.  I hate the cowboys and even more their fans but you gotta give the guy his due… Jerry Jones is a brilliant marketing strategist.

I would be surprised if Sanders goes before 8. There's talk that he may not go in the 1st at all. Dallas can probably get him without moving up but Jerry doesn't need to know that.

Great points--the Cowboys are as close to reality TV as I have seen, and that seems fine with Jerry.  He wants to win, but I wonder if the distractions are just to keep people watching.

Teams aren't going to want to take Dak's awful contract.  They definitely aren't going to get any value back by trading him.  Not this offseason especially.   No way a team gives a first for the opportunity to take that giant contract for a qb that is a little above average.  I believe the Dallas offense statistically was better overall with Rush in at qb and they won more games.

On the open market it would fetch way more then that I would imagine just on brand alone.  Problem is there are only a handful of people in the world that could afford that

      Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.

      Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.

      Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
