I have always and will always love Cam the football player. That being said Cam has never been the most PC person behind the microphone. I truly don't think he means any harm behind it he's just one of these guys that kind talks. We all know people like that in our life.

Charles Johnson (quoted because this shitty website is broken and wont let me embed)

without having any inside info I am sure this about how Cam handled losses his rookie year.

I'm still waiting on Charles Johnson to spill the tea on Matt Rhule like he promised

Here's how I view it. Cam made a comment that was insensitive (this is pretty norm for him) but I don't think he meant it like "Oh all the Panthers are trash" he was just saying that by virtue of being the number one pick you are going to a stastically bad team

Steve took it personally because well....it's steve for god's sakes

Cam should just apologize and Steve and him can make up

I think this is what happened.  Cam should just explain himself better.  To me I think he meant that's the mindset when you are drafted #1 and all that.

This is how I interpreted it as well.

Cam speaks from the hip. Sometimes it lands, and sometimes it doesn't.

I hope he doesn’t do that with cam, it just seems so petty. Cam didn’t call him out personally and let everyone know some poo that happened in the locker or some embarrassing stuff behind the scenes. Cam put his foot in his mouth (although I don’t think he meant any ill will) lets hope he makes it right and everyone moves on.

How anyone understands anything Cam says is amazing to me. I struggle to understand what he's trying to say most of the time. I butcher the English language with the best but Cam is on another level. I love the guy and have accepted that that's who he is but an orater he is not.

It really wasn’t trash.   It just had a trash QB….and trash QB play is crazy impactful

Roster was full of pro bowlers and Panthers greats in reality.  Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Double Trouble, 89, Big Money, Gamble, etc.   Basically the future Ring of Honor.    Then they added some solid guys for his first year in

Like Legadu Nane and Haruki Nakamura?

he always was self-centered.  Great athlete, but he was about some Cam.  Maybe that was his way of being great--but think how he must have been treated his entire life--so he was a product of us.

He is also very kind to his fans--saw him signing autographs for people after OTAs--he missed my son, holding a Cam jersey, and saw it when he looked back--he froze and looked sad, then smiled and ran back to him and signed it.  I saw him "showing off" at practice when nobody was in the stands--high energy, fun, contagious.

Finally, I would say his teammates may not feel about the organization like Cam does.  I think the Panthers should have protected him better, offensive line, had him run less, slide more, and never let him run that QB draw.  But RR was worried about his job, and Cam is a gamer--Cam took a beating like no other QB before him--and he did it for the team.  So his bitterness may be misguided here.  Rivera and Hurney need to take some responsibility for the shortening of Cam's career and the feeling that he might have had the team on his back.  The OL was usually bad and there were not the best weapons after 89.  I understand it--he is not handling it well, but I see his source of irritation.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
