What if BPA is Will Campbell?

While I would not like the idea of this, I might put my emotions aside to analyze the logic and strategy behind it.  Understand that Moton (followed by Hubbard and Coker) might be my favorite Panther, so I am struggling here:

Moton is starting to have a few knee pains--could be nothing, but knee pain is not ideal for a 320 lb OT who is 32 on his next birthday.  He has value now, so we could trade him for a third rounder in 2026, for example, and dump a lot of his cap hit (up to $17.5m).  That money could be used to pay for a stud DT, and we know that our T position is still solid.  Not sure if he can play RT, but I will assume he can be taught.

So we would get younger and add a stud free agent or two and get a day 2 pick. 

I don't like it--I think we have enough to fix without fixing that which is running fine--but there could be an argument made for a strategy/logic behind it.

If you have the opportunity to draft a franchise LT, you do it, period. 

yeah, most of us are so tied to DL (DE, DT/NT, Edge) or WR for this pick, we sorta have blinders on.  As I said 2 posts earlier, they might add a future draft pick, knock $17m off their cap number (because the option is to extend a RT with a possible knee issue), and get younger.  He could play swing T for a season to learn both sides, moving to RT (or having Ekwonu move to RT) and Moton's deal is voidable in 2026. 

However, it is my opinion that we do not need a T right now, and later in this draft  we should draft a swing T. 

However, other teams need a LT and they will be willing to trade up.  I think the presence of an elite college OT when we pick could get us a nice trade back package offer.

The phone has been ringing at that point. Take the best offer within reason.

 

LT are always in need and Ive been saying that 8th spot is prime for OT. There are two others OT that teams could be hot after. 

Panthers will have options. 

Again this along with CB is the worst outcome, its not soo bad to me.

Oh I can see the logic but for a team that is trying to breed a positive culture. Moving on from one of the teams true leaders right after finally turning the oline into a strength might bring the house of cards down

It would.  That is why what looks decent on paper is not necessarily the best move.  The most successful CEOs know that the culture is more important than the bottom line.  In my doctorate of Organizational Leadership classes, I used to teach a text that said--"if you make decisions based on side effects, you are not addressing the core that leads to those side effects.  No company or business or school was ever successful without a shared vision and a supportive culture."

The lines are never good enough. That has to be the mentality. LT is one of the most expensive positions on the team. Take an LT in the draft if he’s legit BPA. 

Ickey is coming up due to get PAID, regardless of how this next season pans out. You hope he becomes the pass blocker the team needs, but what if he’s not. He is not going to want anything other than franchise LT money. 
 

I agree with swinging him to RT, but can this team afford to pay a RT LT money?

Now, if they go LT in round 1 who is the clear successor, deal Ickey and have another LT on the cheap for the next 5 years. Use that $ to pick up a premium pass rusher

Ravens, Chiefs, Dolphins, Texans, Bears, Rams--all desperate for a T to protect their franchise QBs--and the free agent market sucks.  We could get a nice haul.

Their BPA won't match our BPA and I'm sure position of need is factored into their Big Board.  I'm pretty sure teams always pick BPA according to their metrics

That's a tough call. But if recent results in this league have proven anything it's that elite play in the trenches can open up things for everyone else. See the Eagles.

      JMO, I think it is lame as hell to publicly give up on the team and then crawl back when they win a few games. Like, how can you run a PANTHERS PODCAST and then give up on it during the season?    Yes, you can argue the Panthers prior to Week 3 hadn't done anything to deserve fanfare, but nobody made them run a Panthers Podcast.  They chose to.  So stick with it.  Instead they gave up and did so publicly.  Which is well within their right - but you can't then turn around and bring it back the same season.

      The crazy thing about football is it’s a team sport. But one position can make or break the game. And one of the best ways in doing that is by not giving the ball away and being able to run at 4-5 yard clips. Throw in a couple passes and next thing you know you’re in the red zone. Playing this way limits possessions to other(more dynamic) QBs too. And if your defense plays well that could equate to between 4 and six series. If you’re running that efficient, you can say, split the offensive production with the run or the pass. So by attempt byce accounted for his half of the yardage and Rico did too. Rico also managed to punch it in at the goal line. And you gotta give it to our oline and they’re running blocking and that’s without TMO! so the truth is, Canales and management figured out how to use Bryce’s strengths to compliment this run game to cover up his weaknesses in a way that is efficient. And our defense showed improvement against pretty formidable opponent the week after andy dalton gave it to buffalo. They are putting winning football on the field more often, and we are slowly becoming better each week. I hope they can keep it up.

      If only the Eagles collapse. I dont think it will happen though. I hate them as much. Ill root for the Chiefs if they play the Eagles this time around in the Superbowl. I hate those guys.
