Dan Graziano: Panthers will be fairly aggressive in free-agency

No, it's never a good idea to attempt to build by wild spending in free agency. The history of that is VERY clear.

You have to keep in mind that we spend a record amount of money on the two of the lowest value positions on the offense last offseason. We all enjoyed the improvements but to keep doing that at non-premium positions(S and NT are not premium positions) will absolutely end up being incredibly devastating long term.

No matter what, we have to eventually be competent at drafting or there is really never going to be any hope for us. The NFL has a salary cap. You can't buy championships in the salary cap NFL. Many have tried, none have had success.

There’s a difference in going chip Kelly eagles version of trying to buy a ring which never works … but the injection of proven talent and experience into a couple of positions can work wonders. Our run D and passrush has been as bad as I’ve ever seen it. If they aggressively sign a defensive free agent or 2 I don’t think that automatically dooms us. Yes they have to draft better period

Yall so used to being a poverty franchise that you only want the Panthers to improve in one way. This is exactly when you should spend money, when you have a young QB on a rookie deal. This is their chance to improve quickly.

Agreed. Shrewd signings need to happen, as well as drafting well.

I am just saying we can't keep shelling out top 5 and 10 contracts every offseason or this period of misery is going go continue far longer.

Eagles have less cap than we do this year.  The year after however, Eagles have the 5th lowest cap, 46 mill.  In 2026 we have the 7th most, just under 150 mill.  We can shop with just about anyone

That 2026 cap space number is considering only 26 players under contract. The Panthers will not go into next offseason with only 26 players under contract. That cap space number is  going to get much smaller.

Agree with shrewd being key. And don’t disagree with the rest. But counterpoint…

if we drafted Hunt, Lewis, Williams, etc would it be an issue giving out these contracts to retain them?

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
