I think it’s important to understand that scouting players is extremely difficult, and even the best scouts miss as much as they succeed. These scouts are looking for traits and using that, along with interviews, pro days, and combines, to try to paint a picture of a player who could be successful in the NFL. However, that doesn’t guarantee success it’s not an exact science

Yeah, Steve thought Mingo was going to be a player, and he turned out to be a bum. That’s just how it goes

They don't like his evaluation of a player that they covet. Instead of addressing what he said, they try to discredit him

Maybe but he has hit and he is right about Tet

You want him to be right about that but kinda early to be making any judgments on his career considering the draft hasn't even happened yet.

This guy believed Kealoha Pilares and Ryne Robinson were the "real deal." He doesn't know poo about evaluating players.

In fairness, he played with the guys, his job today is a lot different than it was back then.  Yea, he knew ball but he wasnt breaking down tape and prospects the way he is now.  He always was probably trying to be a good friend/teammate rather than breaking down why those guys are dogshit.

Smitty has a pretty poor track record when it comes to WR evaluations.

But Michael Jordan was one of the worst talent evaluators in the history of the NBA(it would be hard to argue he wasn't THE worst) and John Elway was a pretty piss poor GM.

Just because you play the position well doesn't always mean you can evaluate the position well.

    • What?!?!?! Chark's 1,000 yard season was 4 years before he played for us and he only had 525 yards in 15 games as our #1 WR.  Dude has 3,100 yards in 7 seasons, he's the literal definition of a JAG and you think he is better than half our current WR room? T-Mac is literally already better than Chark was at his peak, which again, was years before he ever even put on a Panthers uniform, and there is a real argument to be made that XL and Coker were both better as rookies than Chark was for us in his one season here.
    • Im glad we're starting low. It's nonsensical to put us at 28 IMHO based on objective things IMHO (I think 21-24) is far more appropriate but whatever. Washington was at the bottom last year FWIW.  In 2003, Sports Illustrated said our best chance to win the division was to transfer to the ACC. In 2015, everyone wrote us off as a team that snuck into the playoffs with a losing record in 2014 and lost our best WR in TC (Kelvin Benjamin). All these videos are fodder for conversation, but this prediction has no more validity than saying the Panthers are making the SB bc we're starting the season against the Jaguars again. If Bryce plays like he did down the stretch we will end up the season just fine. This roster is much better than it has been the last 2 seasons. No one knows who any season will ultimately end up, but this team is finally being built in the right way, and the idea that this roster can't compete this year is as insane as being it was when we were gaslit in 2023 that we were a rookie QB from winning the division with that roster.
