That’s a stretch. He was much better in zone and took on spy responsibilities well this past season. If you’re talking 2023 he had some growing pains but what he was asked to do with UGA translates to a diverse role in the NFL. Nolan Smith in ways - Eagles started playing him more off all this past year along with edge work and it turned out nicely.

They will move him around to all 4 LB positions, hes not just an edge

If the Panthers are on the clock and Sanders is in the green room, probably fuming with his daddy, does Pittsburgh call?  (They do not have a second rounder).  Does Cleveland attempt to move back up and grab a QB?  It would cost them 33, 67, 94 and a 2026 second rounder.

Or do you take Jalon Walker?

Everybody’s been screaming for a trade-down all off-season. If they can an offer this way, they should take it

Both mocks on Walter Football now have Shedeur falling to 33.  Once the first two teams pass on him in the first round, the bottom could fall out.  Who will trade up to catch a falling knife?

We certainly tried with Clausen back in the day.

The trade scenario I thought of was with Membou and the Seahawks at 8. They’ve expressed strong interest in him.

If the Walker buzz is as strong as rumored, Membou (or maybe Campbell) could be the odd man out there at 8. NO, CHI, MIA plenty of teams need OL ahead of SEA and they have a ton of picks.

We get 18 and one of their seconds at min. This year may not be as good a return as other years but the player value could hold — we still end up with Ez/Mykel/Tet/etc. at 18.

Ok. You’re entitled to your opinion. I think he’ll be primarily a Jack they move inside on obvious passing downs to either blitz or spy. Still doesn’t put him as even a “ILB hybrid” for me, because you basically still need a two down starter at Mike or Will outside of Walker.

I think you make fair points and it’s good convo. Walker’s big ability is disrupting the passer right now, so naturally, his role should be primarily an edge at the onset.  I could have framed it in a better way that wasn’t as off-ball centered.

    • Who is "they"?  Who in the media still argues that Bryce Young could reach the levels that people thought he would before the draft? I mean, nobody is going to come outright and bash the kid.  By all accounts he's a good dude and I think that is why you don't see the media come after him like they did Zach Wilson.
    • It started during the Denver game after that first drive. i don’t think the panthers got a first down again until the fourth quarter.
    • The Panthers will finish with at least 7-8 wins.  So that leaves them with only two "smart" choices in my opinion: 1. Sign a reasonably priced free agent QB and see if they are better than Bryce Young in training camp - The issue is there will be very little options.  There is almost no way the Colts let Daniel Jones walk.  Rodgers, Flacco, and Wilson will likely retire (and is Wilson better than Bryce anyway?).  Winston is under contract with the Giants for another year.  That leaves Mariota, which I'm all for, but the Commanders will make a big push to keep him given Daniels' injury history.  Outside of him, there is literally nobody else. 2. Stick with Bryce Young for one more year - Nobody wants this to happen, but the Panthers won't be in a position to draft one in the first round and it isn't a strong class to begin with.  Mendoza, Simpson (and do we really want an Alabama QB?), and Moore will likely all be off the board by the time we pick.  Bryce isn't good, but we are still 5-4.  I'd rather continue to build the rest of the team than reach for a QB.  Then we could set ourselves up nicely in 2027 to make a splash play if we choose.  This is how we should have approached years past; stuck with Kyle Allen or Sam Darnold or Teddy Bridgewater and kept building the team until we were ready to make a splash.  But every year we panicked and did something stupid. There is the idea you could throw a dart at a guy in the later arounds, but IMO this just isn't a good QB class and odds are it will be a wasted pick.  I still think we need a lot of depth on the defense.  I'd rather focus there.
