Why I Believe That We Will Trade Down

It seems like almost every mock draft has us taking Walker, which I'm OK with, however I believe that we trade down. 

The odds of us getting Graham or Carter are very slim. Most mocks have Carter going no later than 4 and Graham doesn't get past Jacksonville. 

While choosing Walker is okay, we need more help defensively and there's a lot of really good players between 8 and 59.

Every mock I did with a trade down gave me an extra second round pick in between 8 and 59. This particular mock I did I got  two extra picks 46 and 78.

Traded Down in Round One 8 to 15 and picked up 46
Traded again one spot 15 for 16 and picked up 78

I was able to get Carson Schwesinger with 46. While he may not be Luke, he patterns is game after him. He studies film and can I only believe he'll get better with Luke really advising him. 

After Tez Johnson the remaining draft was BPA. We need depth on defense and my lower round picks should give us that depth.

I’m really liking trading with Dallas and only dropping 4 spots and getting another 2nd. Drafting Williams and going safety and WR in the 2nd

The same reason people say there is less chance of a trade due to the nature of the class are ignoring the fact that's what keeps the door open for a trade. Everyone we have been staring at and debating at 8 are not that different then the guys in the 20s this year. It only takes 1 team to fool themselves into thinking that's not true or to let need take the wheel. It already happens here. Sanders, the rb, the TE, a possible OT or hell throw Walker into that pile. There are players good enough for someone to make a mistake but not good enough to worry about losing them in a trade back.

Who knows. This draft is weird. It's going to be fun to see how that shakes down. With the quality NIL has brought to that level of play this could be the new normal.

Every draft has a wrinkle thrown into it... I will say with confidence, at least 2 wrinkles will happen in the first 8 picks. Which could cause a domino effect. I really like our draft position; we will hold a lot of the cards come time to draft at #8

To your point:  An analyst (I forget who) said something interesting.  After the first pick, the intriguing picks that could be "wrinkles" are the odd number picks: 3--Giants and Sanders/Carter, 5 Jags and Jeanty/Graham, (I would throw in #6 Raiders here and swap with the Jets, who will take OT Membou,  and then the Saints at #9. 

I think picks 1-4 are set, regardless of what they are trying to do to pair the Giants and Sanders--

The drama is going to come from a trade--I think the Pats could trade, the Jags, the Raiders if Jeanty is taken at 5, and the Panthers.

Walker is a smoke screen. It’s too obvious. We either take somebody else or trade down and take Warren, Golden, or somebody comparable and stack picks.

History says there will be multiple first round trades but this class is somewhat unique in its lack of talent once you get past the first 3-5 guys.  I am really hoping for a trade back because i have been convincing myself the character issue guys (Mike Green, Pearce, and Burden) can be rehabilitated here and would represent a huge bargain late in the first or even early in the second for Burden.

Remember Greg hardy?  He had some character red flags and he turned out fine, amIright?  On the other hand, Honeybadger was almost undraftable--he has turned it around.   I would stay away from the players who abuse women or drugs, however. 

Felony littering, Speeding, fighting, kidnapping kittens and ransoming them back to their owners--those crimes can be overlooked.  Of course, I think that would be catnapping.

I definitely think that we want to. I'm just not sure that we find a dance partner unless we're willing to take less (possibly considerably less) than traditional draft pick value chart value for our pick.

A) what would be the point of a smoke screen?

B) we arent drafting a player in the top 10 that we haven't met with

Except that our 1st round pick has been obvious for years now.
