Mitch Evans is a rookie tight end for the Panthers. I was referring to Mitch Evans. He read "Mike Evans" and went off on a tangent.

This is hilarious he literally went off I was so confused how Mitch turned into Mike Evans but hey it’s the huddle and we’re all fired up for the season. It’s all good if you don’t know the players now it’s ok we have about 5 months left of football to discuss things.

Anyone not excited about TMac after tonight is just a hater who didn’t want him drafted in the first place

It sounds familiar to last season, but I'm fairly certain that it's going to be difficult to use the X hater playbook for T-mac.

Thinking it over the following morning while I still feel disappointment with Legette I do appreciate him having some fire in his belly here. But he's got to use it wisely. And please no more punches with helmets on. We need those hands.

That’s not fire.

Losing your poo on a backup defender basically 5 plays into the intro of the season and risking your entire season by throwing hands all over the place at a helmet……isn’t fire.  It’s senseless stupidity that we are trying to pretend is something else.

and I was pimping XL harder than almost everyone on this board coming into the game/season

I don't think it's the worst thing ever either. Of course, he doesn't use those hands to actually catch footballs, but it's good to see him being productive at least.

Nowhere did I say it wasn't foolish. My biggest complaint is throwing punches at helmets which is by definition stupidity.

As much as I can criticize Legette for his gaffe and unfortunate choice I feel like more criticism should be directed at the head coach here. This is his baby. This guy spent a great deal of time waxing poetic in the camp confidential series but what we saw last night was the very definition of classic Panthers football in the worst ways. That rests squarely on his shoulders. Now we need to see how he and his players respond. But I can tell you as a Panthers fan who has been through the ringer for over 2 decades. He can't keep doing this. There needs to be a new identity established this season even if we aren't necessarily winning we absolutely need to be competitive.

I think some of you are way overdoing the fact that he was hitting a helmet. Helmets are smooth, hell as a kid I used to literally hit brick walls with my fists to toughen them up. I also played tackle football on pavement on occasion coming up. I also got in little disagreements with helmets on. I'd hate it when guys would grab my facemask. In my thinking, they were using it as a crutch---a sneaky weapon in order to leverage against me and subdue me by placing me in an awkward fighting stance.  I hated it when guys would hit my helmet. I'd feel the force of the hit and hear the thuds. I'd prefer not to have a helmet on and really get it on. X didn't use good judgement for fighting, but in football tempers flare sometimes. It's a teaching moment. He said that it wouldn't happen again, and it didn't happen last season.

I think that’s just apologist gymnastics in all honesty.  The helmet is smooth? Ok.

when people show you they are really dumb….i just tend believe them.  No matter the uniform.  It being a backup scrub defender 5 plays into this season given where he is on this roster…..says a lot more about his head space and composure at this point in time than his “fire” for me.

nothing is the end of the world.  But anyone watching the Panthers working on things thus far off that game shouldn’t be overly impressed about what Tepper is about to give the world…..again.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
