Every, also didn't call any plays dur8nf the game.  I expect to see struggles in preseason.  That's why its preseason.

Yes, the was are getting some work, but survival and evaluating the rest of the roster are still the priorities.

why should you expect to see struggles in the preseason?  I think that is exactly why some people are having angst about Friday.  Cleveland didnt look like they were struggling a bit.  And a lot of other teams looked pretty fluid as well over the weekend

And a generational middle lb.

even without Luke....it it was substantially different type of investment going on.  You also ended up w/ Star, KK, Shaq.  And every pick doesn't hit.  So you have the non-hits like Ealy, McClain added in which come w/ the territory.

Since Morgan has been there it has been O heavy.   And on top of that.....the entire management of it all has run counter to logic used in the biggest investment of all.   We gave up the farm for BY under the logic we could invest elsewhere.  That was THE selling point of going the BY route.  Yet, after they drafted BY....every first round pick has been on a WR.   Back to back.

The D sucks because Evero is a JAG coach.  With whack talent.  But you could hire a great coach....and we likely are still bottom half.  We have a talent issue.  That's the front offices fault.

OLBs standing up is exactly what a 3-4 is. They line up with hand in the dirt in a 4-3.

You cannot be this obtuse. Regardless if they are standing or having their hand in the dirt, four players lined up across from the OL is a 4-3. We need three DL with their hands in the dirt if we are to stop the run. See the alignment below. It is two DTs and the OLBs for a 4 down front. This is a four man front and it makes zero sense. We ran it all last year. Again it is a junk defense that is destined to fail. They have drafted players for a 3-4, not a 4-3 and the alignment gives way to easy running lanes. Our defense will continue to look terrible until we make a change. I don't care if its scheme or Coordinator, but something must change.

But I've lost confidence in Evero. It hasn't worked at all so far

Running a 3-4 and having a DC who runs the least amount of blitzs in the NFL (not to mention they are predictable when he does) is kind of counter intuitive.

Panthers technically blitzed more than most teams in the NFL last year.   They just have mindboggling bad results from it.   Think they had the 2nd worst % at actually generating pressure despite going to that well a lot.

Only because Evaro was forced too, before last year he had some ridiculously low blitz %%

Saying his blitzes are not creative is an understatement...

Plus I think it was agaist greenbay? 3rd and 2 lets drop 9 guys and rush a Safety and a lb.

I'm willing to give Evero some leeway given the lack of talent he has to work with. But I do tend to agree that the 4-3 would be preferable to his 3-4 scheme.

I think the biggest plus of the 4-3....is it is more manageable without the ideal players.  I think the 3-4 gets really bad when you lack the key players needed for it.

I mean, in reality to run a really good 3-4 you need a dominant NT.  And great LBs.  Running a 3-4 w/ JAGs at those spots is just.....pointless.

3-4 sucks. Has always sucked. But it doesn’t help he is a terrible defensive coordinator.
He should have been fired last year but thankfully this is the last year on his contract.
We will lose games because of his defense.

3-4 doesn't suck. It all depends on your personnel, and how you use them.

Personally, I like the 4-3 and the flexibility that affords in going to nickel coverage while still maintaining a true four man front.

That said, Evero shouldn't be employed by the Carolina Panthers right now. Literally no one in NFL history could have LED a defense to the worst defense in NFL history and still manage to have a job. That is absurd.

I think that rather than supplementing the pass rush by blitzing ILBs that Evero is going to send more DB blitzes (especially from the slot). If Ransom wins the starting job, that'll be something that both him and Moehrig can do which would play in to the rotations that the defense leans on.

There's going to be a lot of pressure on the DL to protect the LBs as well as the DBs to muddy things up enough for QBs to have to hesitate. Veeeeery interested to see if they target a safety during cuts (especially with Kyle Dugger rumored to be on the outs from New England)

    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks are Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team) seem to be locks. Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
    • I had this discussion with my buddy yesterday afternoon. If we start this season very slow(especially with the schedule being what it is) and then "rally" in the second half to get to 4-7 wins, I am already gonna be pretty heated at the staff overall. I know we are a very bad roster but I am not gonna keep excusing these slow season starts WITH late season rallies. That's a coaching staff problem, IMO. It's more excusable to just stink gate to gate, IMO. At least you can understand why.
