Trey Lance 2026

Lance would be an interesting player to bring in to try and develop but the 1000 of question marks about his ability to follow a game plan worries me. 

He seems to be a player that moves to improvise more than follow the play.

Yeah, I just don't know if anyone has seen enough of anything from him. Pandemic shortened college career, injury setbacks early on etc.

Even if we do roll with Bryce/Dalton, I think there needs to be a real battle for backup QB in camp, at least. Roster three, if necessary.

Sign one, draft one, IDGAF but let's see some potential options, at least.

This team could go far with a middle of the pack vet QB. I don’t know who’s going to be available in the offseason but pretty much anyone but Bryce and dalton and the panthers could win the division next year

I think Lance will end up becoming a good starter in the right situation. I don't think he'd come to the Panthers unless they were not going to be retaining Bryce with other teams likely moving on from starters. I could see him going to the Dolphins or maybe the Saints.

Harbaugh is rolling with him as QB2, I see no reason why we can't next year and let him compete.  He has everything you want physically.  Sometimes these guys just need time and the right place (see Darnold, Geno, Danny Dimes, Warner, Delhomme etc...).  If we still have Bryce, I'd love to add Lance and draft a midround rookie on on a player like Green from Arkansas.

I admit, I was a Trey Lance guy coming out of college. He has all the physical tools, bring him in and see if Canales can coach him up

Absent a really impressive multi game performance by Young, you have to do this or something like it.

I honestly can't imagine any scenario where we keep Dalton next year. If we can somehow find a sucker to trade him to, dead cap will be $3.5m, otherwise a bit over 5, which we can do post June 1st to spread across a couple years. We'd be saving about $2M towards the cap in either scenario which is 100% well worth it as he is purely dead weight on the roster right now and that Bills game made clear we need to upgrade backup QB badly (sure that could come in the form of upgrading the starter and making Bryce backup, either way Dalton can't be in the plans next year).
