So is this a Bryce issue, a Canales issue, or a non issue?

was it canales that screamed "take a shot?" right before the T-mac touchdown?

I did not see that one but it is interesting. I know many hate PFF but they have him ranked the 2nd best deep ball thrower in the NFL. Is it because he only takes the shot when high percentage to hit? Is it Canales not calling them?

I think it’s Canales essentially having Bryce at this point throwing deep only in the most advantageous spots possible.

can Bryce hurt a team in man coverage? Yes.  Add the blitz? Odds go up.  Add it’s a run scenario threat too? Odds go up.

generally the attempts also seem to be factoring in if things go bad…..opponent doesn’t have a shot at good field position off it.    They largely are endzone shots once in FG territory of late.

Give Bryce zone between the 20s? Canales doesn’t seem to want to mess with that.  Bryce does seem very managed at this point (not saying that’s good or bad but Canales seems to have settled in largely to a strategy of late).

got to think defenses are going to counter soon because it feels like the shots are getting predictable of when we take them now.   Defenses daring throws and Canlales now takes them at certain locations on the field.  Think if you did a compilation of his last several big throws….there is a lot in common on many

Week 7: Coker comes back plays a little

Week 8: Dalton in

Week 9: GB/wind

Week 10: Bryce finally has Coker back. He’s built some chemistry with TMac

Prior to Coker coming back we were trotting guys like Tremayne and Renfrow out there

We’re in dire need of a legitimate deep threat type WR. Mid round type speed guy. It would do wonder for this offense

If he wasn't in the division at the time old mate that the Seahawks got from the Saints would have been perfect

It’s a pass protection and WR issue. The pass protection is not good, anytime Bryce attempts to throw deep or take a 7 step drop he gets blasted. And our two best WR run 4.58 and 4.57, neither of them were known as burners coming out of college.

I’m not sure Bryce can really uncork a deep ball to a guy like Ginn. I’d be blown away if he starts hitting passes like that. Right now it feels like he’s taken advantage of opportunities that favor him best. They are perfect accurate passes which I love, but I’m not expecting him to throw any bombs like we’ve seen from other QBs.

I'm not exactly comfortable asking O-line combination number 12, 13... whichever one we have next week to pass pro long enough to even attempt more deep shots. Even if we had a prototypical gunslinger QB with a rocket arm, even guys like Coker who has shown great speed often still has a defender draped on him anyways. Seems that we but need dimes for those deep shots to succeed whereas other teams have a larger margin of error.
